Why When and How

Introduction - April 21, 1991

Summary of why , when and how the Roy Community got started in improving the Roy Cemetery. On June 13, 1982 Dick and Lucille Komarek and Mary Pollard stopped at my ranch (Frank Cimrhakl) to discuss the Cemetery. It didn't take much discussing to agree to replace the old fence, which had wooden post. Many of these were broke off and leaning, the four barb wires were tangled and woven wire smashed, so a new chain link fence would be the plan.
On this day in June 13, 1982 Dick and Lucille contributed $150.00 and Mary Pollard $50.00 and that's how this plan started. Dick asked me to explain to the neighbors the plan to improve the Roy Cemetery.

The community was 100 % in favor and everyone contributed and before the end of the year $1,760.00 was donated.  Since that day in 1982 $3 100.00 donated and $2,959.00 was spent improvements.  600 feet of new chain link fence was installed, 63 steel posts set in cement. The other 600 feet of old fence was tore out and rebuilt by Chuck Kanenan using new steel posts and woven wire.

There are eleven Pine trees, seventeen Juniper, four Honeysuckle, one Lilac and one flowering Crab tree.

Chuck and Marilyn Kanenan put cement markers on 28 unmarked graves where names were not available. In 1987 the writer put markers on unmarked graves. 10 markers. Albert Sargent 1905-1906, grave half mile west of Roy, put in by Dick Kalina, Jim Murphy and Frank Cimrhakl.

Might be interesting where all the contributions came from besides Roy., Lewistown, Grass Range, Roundup, Billings, East Helena, Anaconda, Cut Bank, Big Timber, five from state of Washington, three from Michigan, one from Wisconsin, Anchorage, Alaska, Minnesota and Idaho.

Visit the Roy Cemetery when you can, it's no doubt the nicest Cemetery in Central Montana.
Don't miss the gazebo where they  have a map of where all the graves are.
