JANUARY 1957

Jan 1st Tues.-We had New Years dinner here. Richard's, Ray's & Don Querly were here. Ted & Betty came in PM. Ted went back to Billings.

Jan 2nd Wed.-Richard, & Don left early. Richard went to Livingston & Helena, sold two Kirbys. We didn't do much here.

Jan 3rd Thurs.-Richard's left for home about 9:30. I cleaned up the house, then Gib & I went to Lewistown at noon. Took Gene & Maxine to show "War & Peace" at night, then stayed overnight at Dad's. Al stayed home, hunted rabbits with Max at night & broke the pickup axle over south of Franks.

Jan 4th Fri.-We did some trading, paid taxes, left for home after dinner. Stopped in Roy. I visited with Opal till school was out, then we saw Mrs Murphy & came home.

Jan 5th Sat.-I mopped the kitchen, gave Mildred a Toni permanent. Glen Rindal came selling hosiery. Al put the axle in pickup & came home after dinner, went to town about 6:30.

Jan 6th Sun.-Rays went to church with us. Ray Marshs were there. Gib & I went to see Mrs. Myers in evening, but no one home, so we went rabbit hunting, got 2.

Jan 7th Mon.-I washed & dusted. Men watered cattle.

Jan 8th Tues.-Ray Marsh's came. I baked bread.

Jan 9th Wed.-I ironed. Men watered & fed cattle straw. Al went to Roy to see about income tax.

Jan 10th Thurs.-Gib & I went to Lewistown, got home about 5 PM. I wrote to Aunt Edith.

Jan 11th- Fri.-Gib & Al hauled out a load of coal. Sent Ted's clothes to Billings.

Jan 12th Sat.-I baked rolls & doughnuts. Men fed the cattle. Al went to Lewistown at night. Ted came home.

Jan 13th Sun.-20-,cold & clear-I mopped the kitchen, made cookies, got chicken dinner & packed Ted's stuff. Ted left about 4 o'clock.

Jan 14th Mon.-Cold & light snow-Men brought the cattle home, watered at the well & fed hay for the first time. I crocheted a pair of booties, made a baby kimono for Maxine & did some Swedish weaving on Cora's scarf.

Jan 15th Tues.-Men fed cattle & then went to Rays. I washed by hand.

Jan 16th Wed.-Men fed & watered cattle. I ironed.

Jan 17th Thurs.-Gib & I got up at 5 o clock, left at 6 to go to Lewistown to see Social Security man, but he didn't come. Mildred stayed & came home with us. We went to see my folks, then up to Pucketts, then had supper at Gene's. On way home, we stopped at Christensen's for fellowship meeting.

Jan 18th Fri.-Men did chores. Al worked on brakes on his car. I cleaned house, except kitchen, lay down awhile, crocheted some. Frank & Murna came in evening.

Jan 19th Sat.-Al helped do chores, then went to Lewistown. I cleaned kitchen baked bread & cookies. We went to Mikes in evening.

Jan 20th Sun.-The boys came home at 7 this morning. Al left his car in town so went back with Ted about noon. It snowed, so we didn't go to town.

Jan 21st Mon.-Men did chores. I made two baby kimonos for Maxine.

Jan 22nd Tues.-I washed & mopped. Rev. Dorsett came in afternoon. Allen went to see Monte in PM. I worked on Cora's scarf.

Jan 23rd Wed.-Men did chores. I worked on scarf & sewed snaps on kimonos.

Jan 24th Thurs.-Gib & Al did chores, then Al went to Baumans a little while to get battery charger. I made a baby jacket & worked on Cora's dresser scarf. Max Webster stopped a few minutes. Gib went to church meeting at Kalinas.

Jan 25th Fri.-44-,-Did chores. I cleaned house & dusted, finished little jacket.

Jan 26th Sat.-Max Webster got Al to take him to Lewistown to see Doctor & to get an oil stove.

Jan 27th Sun.-Al & Max came back. Ted, Danny Biggs, Billy Phillips & Port Wood came out. Rays came for water. I baked bread.

Jan 28th Mon.-cold & light snow-Max came to see if Mick could stay here this week while the roads are bad. I wrote to Emily & crocheted. Baked two cakes. Mick stayed at night. Gib & Al went to Roy for oil cake.

Jan 29th Tues.-Sent Mick to school. Baked cookies. Men did chores.

Jan 30th Wed.-Nice-Men did chores, broke a road through the snow out to the road, pulled our car out & got it started. I wrote to Bob's, did some patching & crocheting. Mick came home. Al went to show in Roy.

Jan 31st Thurs.-Nice-Mick walked to school Men did chores. I crocheted, pressed Cora's scarves, made a bootie. Al went after Mick as it was snowing.

February 1957

Feb 1st Fri.- 18+,snow all day, -Mick walked to school & home again. I patched Al's jacket & dusted the house. Crocheted.

Feb 2nd Sat.-Men did chores, pulled feed troughs out where they could use them. Max Webster came after Mick on a horse about 2:30. I started a letter to Harold.

Feb 3rd Sun.-I baked cake, crocheted some. Mick rode back with Fuglestads.

Feb 4th Mon.-Mick walked to school, but the teacher wasn't there, so he came home about noon. I washed. Men went to Mikes & Don's. Then Mrs Myers walked over to get the men to help Don get Agusta to the hospital. I finished Harold's letter & wrote to Ted.

Feb 5th Tues.-I baked bread & rolls & ironed. The snow is so deep around the stacks that the men can hardly get through with the tractor. Mick didn't got to school.

Feb 6th Wed.-The men did chores, fixed truck tire chains. Mick went to school. I patched 3 pair overalls & Al's underwear, crocheted on Maxine's scarf.

Feb 7th Thurs.-Mick went to school, but came home at noon when Gib & Al came home from Roy. He had a pain in his side. I finished Maxine's scarf & a doily, baked cookies.

Feb 8th Fri.-Mick went to school. I cleaned house with the vacuum cleaner. We drove over to Rays, but they were gone. Max came for Mick. Men fixed up Rays fence.

Feb 9th Sat.-Al went to town about 11AM. I patched overalls, dusted the house. Gib did chores.

Feb 10th Sun.-Al got home about 6AM. I made jelly, 2 cakes & 3 pies. Ted & Betty came out about 12:30. Had dinner about 3PM. They left after 5. Rays came. Al went to Roy to get our shovel out of Port Woods car. I crocheted for tiny doll.

Feb 11th Mon.-40+-Men did chores. I looked through my work baskets for crochet patterns. Mick walked to school.

Feb 12th Tues.-I baked bread & rolls. Started huck scarf for library table. We went to legion meeting with Rays. Mick's riding horse to school.

Feb 13th Wed.-50+,still very nice-Al changed oil in his car. I crocheted & worked on Auxiliary records. Mick stopped in on way home.

Feb 14th Thurs.-The men butchered our yearling bull calf. I crocheted & worked on Swedish weaving on table scarf. I cut Al's hair.

Feb 15th Fri.-I washed windows, finished booties, 2 pair. Gib went to grazing meeting in PM.

Feb 16th Sat.-I cleaned house, washed my hair, baked cookies & cake. Al went to town in PM. Gib did chores.

Feb 17th Sun.-Gib & I went to church, but there wasn't any. Al got home about 2:30 in the morning. Ted ran into a deer coming home from Billings.

Feb 18th Mon.-cold South East wind, snowy-I washed. Men did chores, brought the beef in so it wouldn't freeze.

Feb 19th Tues.-Took Mick to school. No school & Don brought him home. I ironed.

Feb 20th Wed.-Rays came for water in PM. Gib took Mick to school & Al went to get him. Ted fixed the muffler on his car. I wrote to Mae in evening.

Feb 21st Thurs.-Gib took Mick to school & got him again. I crocheted & baked bread. Ted left in forenoon to go to basketball tournament in Lewistown.

Feb 22nd Fri.-It is cold & snowing so Gib & Al took Mick most of the way home about 10:30. He rode the horse from the road by Franks on home. Men did chores, bedded down the shed. I finished crocheting dolls dress & hat, worked on my dress.

Feb 23rd Sat.- 60+,thawing, chinook-Men did chores. Al went to town after dinner. I cleaned house.

Feb 24th Sun.-Gib did chores. I helped feed hay. Crocheted. Al got home at noon.

Feb 25th Mon.-Al & I went to Roy for polio shots. Ted left to go to Lewistown to see about a job. I sent letters & food basket tickets to auxiliary members.

Feb 26th Tues.-I washed & dried clothes outside. Washed bedding too. Al drove Rays truck to town & took in two of Rays cattle & our cow with one blind eye.

Feb 27th Wed.-Gib & I went to Lewistown, took Mildred along. She & I went to Dr. Pedersen for treatments, stayed in town all night. She stayed at Pucketts, Gib & I went to a show, saw "Silver River" & "Dive Bomber". Stayed with the folks at night. Gene got his jaw broken.

Feb 28th Thurs.-We went to Gene's at noon, then up to the hospital to see Mrs. Stepan & Lucy Apple, & Carl Jackson. Johnny Meckling was brought in with a heart attach. We had two flat tires on the way home.

MARCH 1957

Mar 1st Fri.-We cut & wrapped the rest of our beef. Men worked on the pickup.

Mar 2nd Sat.-Al helped Frank vaccinate & dehorn some heifers, then the vet vaccinated our four heifers. Al went to Lewistown in the evening, took Monte along. I gave myself a permanent, baked a cake & cookies.

Mar 3rd Sun.-Ted came home & helped Dad feed the cows, then Gib & I went to church with Rays. I packed a lunch for Ted & sent him some milk & eggs. He left about 3 P. M. to start a job with a seismograph crew tomorrow.

Mar 4th Mon.-I did some washing. Mildred gave me a permanent. Alice came & spent most of the day. Max & Mick stopped. I washed some windows & woodwork, dusted, ironed kitchen curtains & shirts. Gib did all the chores. Baked cookies & cake. Al took Gene to Billings today to get his broken jaw fixed. Came home in the night.

Mar 5th Tues.-I cleaned house, getting ready for Aunt Edith's visit. Al had to take the lock out of our car trunk as it won't work. They put the spring under the pickup.

Mar 6th Wed.-Men did chores. Gib & I went to see Agusta about 9:30, got home at 11 AM. Gib & I went to Lewistown to see Aunt Edith. Spent the evening at Ann's.

Mar 7th Thurs.-We stayed last night with the folks. Did some shopping & went to Gene's & Ted at noon. Ted & I spent part of the afternoon with Aunt Edith at Ann's, took Aunt Edith riding then down to the folks where we all had supper & saw movies. Alton's were there too.

Mar 8th Fri.-We left Lewistown about 9:30, got home before 11AM. Mrs. Webster & Dougie were here for dinner, then went to Roy. Al left for Lewistown about 2:30.

Mar 9th Sat.-Al took Gene to Billings again. I cleaned house. Gib did all the chores. Richard's came about midnight.

Mar 10th Sun.-Richard's here for dinner, then he & Margie went to Lewistown. I cut Ronnie's hair. Got ready to go to Lewistown tomorrow. Sharon & I made doughnuts.

Mar 11th Mon.-We all went to Roy for polio shots. Then went on to Lewistown. Took the children up to Ann's to see Aunt Edith, then all had dinner at Maxine's. Richard's left about 4:15, then Gib took me back to visit Aunt Edith. In the evening we took Gene's & Aunt Edith to see the Alaska picture. Came home about 15 minutes to 11.

Mar 12th Tues.-I crocheted & rested awhile. Gib & Al cleaned the toilet & the chicken house. I planted some carnations & fixed a plant for Maxine. Ray & Gib went to Legion meeting in the evening. Mildred stayed here. Ted came home about 11PM.

Mar 13th Wed.-I washed some clothes by hand, baked bread & brownies, cut Mildred's hair & Ted's. The boys worked on their cars, went to a show in Roy tonight. Ted stayed in town.

Mar 14th Thurs.-Al helped Frank spray cattle. I finished some crocheted stuff to take to the St. Patricks dance as a surprise packages. Gib went to Franks for awhile.

Mar 15th Fri. -Al helped Spiroff's spray cattle, then they sprayed ours this afternoon. I baked cakes & cookies, roasted meat, wrapped packages, cleaned house. Ted came after dinner & left after supper.

Mar 16th Sat.-Al went to town in afternoon. We went to the St. Patricks dance in Roy.

Mar 17th Sun.-Gib & I went to church, rested in PM. I wrote to Harold, made 3 copies of poppy poster rules, crocheted a tiny doll for Helen Dorsett's shower. I have a cold.

Mar 18th Mon.-I'm about sick with a cold, didn't do much. Gib & Al helped Ray butcher.

Mar 19th Tues.-Frank & Murna came in P. M. to tell us that Websters had wrecked their car down by Peoples old place. We drove down to see it & took Ray along.

Mar 20th Wed.-I did a big washing. Mick stopped twice. Men cleaned barn. Al went to help Max pull his car home in PM. Agusta came for Poster stuff.

Mar 21st Thurs.-snowed-Gib & I left for Lewistown at 6:15. Got in to see Social Security man at 10:45. Went to Gene's, did our trading, had supper with the folks, then came out to Roy for the shower for Helen Dorsett, got home about 11PM. Ted & George Phillips had been out home & worked on their old car to use to go to work at the river with. Monte was here with Allen. Al got Paint home.

Mar 22nd Fri.-cold today & snow flurries-We didn't do much, rested some, Al worked on his car.

Mar 23rd Sat.-I cleaned house. Al took the Websters to Lewistown this PM. Ted came home in the night. Gib & I went to the carnival at Bohemian Hall. I baked cookies.

Mar 24th Sun.-Al got home about 6 this morning. We didn't do much, I baked bread. Ted went to Roy tonight to try to go to river tomorrow.

Mar 25th Mon.-We went to Rays, men vaccinated & dehorned yearlings, then did ours in PM. Al took Websters to Roy. Ted came home.

Mar 26th Tues.-Gib & Al went to help Baumans vaccinate (too windy) & dehorn. I ironed & wrote to Richard's. Ted left about 5 to go back to town. Going to Hilger to study telegraph work.

Mar 27th Wed.-Harold B came to tell us they wouldn't work calves today. Men cleaned the drill, fixed fence around Ackerlys. Al went to have supper with Websters for Max's birthday. Gib cut up the meat & I wrapped some & canned 14 quarts.

Mar 28th Thurs.-Men helped Baumans all day. I sewed baby dress & slip, finished Maxine's dresser scarf, did some typing, walked down to garden & up to get the mail, did chores.

Mar 29th Fri.-I baked two batches cookies. Men helped Baumans till noon, then put some of our cattle over on Ackerlys. We went to Kalina's in evening to church meeting. Al took Max to Roy.

Mar 30th Sat.-Al helped Monte with manure spreader all day. Went to Lewistown at night. I cleaned house, waxed kitchen, hall & porch floors. Ted came home about 12:30 at night. He worked down at the river today.

Mar 31st Sun.-Gib & I went to church. Ted went to town in afternoon. We went to Murna's for supper. The boys got home at 2AM.

APRIL 1957

April 1st Mon.-Al went to help Monte haul manure. Ted took Max to Roy & is going on to Lewistown. I finished baby dress & slip & crocheted.

April 2nd Tues.-Al & Monte finished hauling manure at their place, then worked cleaning our shed in PM. Gib worked on alfalfa field for awhile. I baked Gib's birthday cake & another one. Washed & ironed a baby dress & slip. Monte here for supper.

April 3rd Wed.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Al & Monte finished cleaning our shed & corral. Manure spreader broke down.

April 4th Thurs.-The men took some of our yearlings & some cows over to Ackerlys. Gib harrowed alfalfa & started to sow barley in it. Al harrowed on east alfalfa field. I washed.

April 5th Fri.-Al finished sowing barley on east alfalfa field. Gib harrowed on east side. It rained so they worked on manure spreader. Al went to Lewistown about 3:30 to get some work done on his car., I didn't feel good, rested awhile. Ted came home in the night. Rained in the day & snowed at night.

April 6th Sat.-Gib did all the chores. I cleaned house. Ted went to Roy about 3:30. Al came home about 4:30, cleaned up & went to the Prom in Roy.

April 7th Sun.-Gib did all the chores. We didn't feel good so didn't go to church. Ted got home at 6 A.M. Al took Max home then got back here about 1. Rays came this afternoon. Al & Ted went to Roy. Al hit a cow & wrecked his car in evening.

April 8th Mon.-The boys pulled Al's car to Lewistown. We drove over to Rays, then I went to Lewistown with them in afternoon. I took a treatment. Gib finished harrowing alfalfa field.

April 9th Tues.-Al & Gib took four yearlings & a cow over to Ackerlys. Boys went to town. Gib sowed barley on east alfalfa field. I ironed. Al stayed in Lewistown to see about insurance on his car. Ted came home. Rays went to Legion meeting with us. It snowed.

April 10th Wed.-Ted helped Gib do chores. Too wet & snowy & cold to do field work. I worked on my red print dress & crocheted. Worked on auxiliary books. Ted went to Roy in evening for Al, but he didn't come home.

April 11th Thurs.-Ted helped do chores. Mike & Stella came in afternoon & I gave her a permanent. Ted went to town in afternoon to get some groceries, mail some letters & see if Al came back. Al came home in a new 1953 Dodge car.

April 12th Fri.-I pressed a new doily & some dresses. Wrote to Bobs at night. Boys worked on their cars. Al went to Lewistown at night to take Gene to Billings tomorrow. Gene's son was born this morning. 9:50AM.

April 13th Sat.-Ted helped with chores then went to Lewistown about 9:30. I cleaned house. Gib started to work north field, but Frank came & got him to help with a cow. Agusta came. I went to Mikes & did chores at home.

April 14th Sun. -Boys came home early. I baked cake. Read awhile. Ted & I went to church with Rays in the evening.

April 15th Mon.-Ted took Mildred & I to town to clean the church. Gib harrowed north field awhile & then went to Roy with Frank in evening to grazing meeting.

April 16th Tues.-Al sowed wheat in north west field. Gib worked up south west of the dam. Al sowed it. Ted washed our car. I worked in my flower bed, made cakes etc.

April 17th Wed.-Gib & I went to Lewistown to see our new grandson. Ted took some kids to Grass Range to a track meet in PM. Al sowed wheat, took barley to town to be treated.

April 18th Thurs.- 55+,fog & cloudy -Men worked & sowed on flat. I transplanted flowers, baked bread. Rays went to Lewistown. Ted fixed doors on shed, helped in field.

April 19th Fri.-I washed. Men sowed wheat on south part of field west part of big dam. Betty & Gail Nelson came out in afternoon & Ted & Al took them riding & hiking. They were here for supper until 11:15.

April 20th Sat.-Al went to Lewistown. Ted worked field up south & then went to Roy to work on his car. I cleaned house. Gib rested & looked after cows.

April 21st Sun.-Thunder-We all went to Easter Services at 7AM. Ted & Betty went to Lewistown for dinner at Charlie's. Gib & Al put cows & calves over south on the range. Al went to Roy. We went to Kosir's, but no one home, so we went to Rays & to Conolly's in evening.

April 22nd Mon.-Al took barley to town to be cleaned. Gib harrowed south east field & Al sowed it in afternoon. I washed windows & spaded flower bed. Ted came home at night.

April 23rd Tues.-It rained so the men were in the house all day. Al worked on his lessons. I baked cake, & bread & made doughnuts & ironed. A Mr. Brunemyer came & sold us a burial plot in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Ted sick with cold.

April 24th Wed. -Gib & Al fixed the manure spreader. Frank came & Al helped him in P. M. Ted went to Lewistown for penicillin shot. Going to Great Falls tomorrow. I fixed Al's felt hat, crocheted awhile. Rays stopped on way from Lewistown.

April 25th Thurs.-Men hauled out four loads of manure, worked on Al's car. Mildred came & spent the afternoon.

April 26th Fri.-Al helped Frank take cattle out on range. Gib worked the field west of the south dam. I went to Roy with Ida & Mildred to the Poppy Poster contest.

April 27th Sat.-I cleaned house. Al went to town. Gib sowed barley in field up south.

April 28th Sun.-Ted & Betty came in afternoon & went fishing. Frank moved Websters to Roy. Mick stayed with us. We went to Kosirs, were there for supper. I fried fish for Ted & Betty about 10 o'clock.

April 29th Mon.-Mick went to school. I cut out my navy blue coat. Mildred here awhile. Helped me fit my coat.

April 30th Tues.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Al & Ted fixed fence. Mick went to school.

MAY 1957

May 1st Wed.-I worked on my coat, baked bread & cookies. Ted went to Lewistown to look for work in afternoon. Men fixed fence. Mick went to school.

May 2nd Thurs. -Men started to work north west field. Mildred gave me a permanent, Quick. I worked on my duster.

May 3rd Fri.-I finished my duster. Went to see Stella. Men took cows to south pasture & finished on hill. Al took barley to be cleaned, then drilled on south west field.

May 4th Sat.-Men finished sowing barley. Al went to town after dinner. I cleaned house. Mildred came & I gave her a permanent with what was left of mine. Agusta & kids came. Mike & Stella came for water. I washed car windows.

May 5th Sun.-We went to Winnett to Legion Convention. Ted had been home. Al came home late.

May 6th Mon.-Dorothy brought Mick out. He was sick in bed all day & night. I cut out nylon dress. Men fixed fence & drove out on range.

May 7th Tues.-Gib took Mick to a doctor. Al started summer fallow on Sharps. I planted garden.

May 8th Wed.-Al finished on Sharps by noon. Then he took Jack Goodwin to Roy as he was sick. Gib started summer fallow on Ackerlys. Agusta came & we went to Mildreds. Flora Johnson was there.

May 9th Thurs.-Al plowed for Fuglestad all day. Gib helped Baumans brand calves. Agusta & Mildred came & we made out annual reports for the auxiliary.

May 10th Fri.-Al helped Frank brand calves. Gib finished Ackerlys. I washed.

May 11th Sat.-Al helped Frank till about noon, went to town in afternoon. Gib rode out to see the cattle over south, then we cultivated around the trees & garden. I cleaned house, baked a pie & ironed. It rained.

May 12th Sun.-Good rain, nearly all day-We rested & read. I worked on my nylon dress & crocheted pot holders for Cora.

May 13th Mon.-Al helped Spiroffs brand till noon. I baked bread & doughnuts, made button holes in nylon dress. Mick went to school.

May 14th Tues.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. I went to Dr. Olsen. We stopped at Rev. Dorsetts, then stopped for Legion meeting in Roy. Gib bought a bull from Weidemans.

May 15th Wed.-Gib & Al fixed fence. I finished planting garden, set out tomatoes. Gib & I went to Roy in P. M.

May 16th Thurs.-We branded 46 calves. Mildred & Alice helped me. They were through at noon. I planted flowers. Mick stayed home today with a sore throat.

May 17th Fri.-Al & Gib worked north field. Al went to Lewistown to Grand Ole Oprey play. I finished my nylon dress. Wrote to Aunt Edith. Ole Fuglestad came.

May 18th Sat.-Al went to help Ole. Gib helped Myers brand. I cleaned house & practiced piano. Agusta came in PM. Electricity off at 6:30 for 7 hours at night.

May 19th Sun.-We went to church. Al too. Then Gib & I went to Winifred to Rodeo, came back to baccalaureate services in evening.

May 20th Mon.-rain all day-I baked bread. Al worked on his lessons. Gib did chores, rested, went to get Mick home from school.

May 21st Tues.-rain all day-Mick stayed home from school, got sick after dinner. Al worked on lessons.

May 22nd Wed.-shower-We took Mick, his mother & Dougie to the Dr. He had hives. Frank Stepan rode out with us. Al went to see Johnny Maruska at night. Wrote to Emily.

May 23rd Thurs.-Nice today-Gib & Al worked on tractor & mower. Al went to Baumans to get some welding done, but Monte was gone. I crocheted.

May 24th Fri.-I washed. Men worked on mower. Al washed his car.

May 25th Sat.-I cleaned house. Al washed our car then went to Lewistown before noon. Gene's came out at 10:30PM.

May 26th Sun.-Gene & Gib went fishing. Maxine bathed the baby. We got dinner. Rays came in afternoon. Gene's left about 4.

May 27th Mon.-Al got home about 3 A.M. Rays went with us to Great Falls. We got home about 6PM. Ted & Betty, Gail Nelson, Billie McNulty & her friend were here. Olie came.

May 28th Tues.-Al went to plow for Olie. Gib rode over south to see cattle. I slept & rested for 3 hours, crocheted.

May 29th Wed.-We helped Rays brand calves. I ironed in P. M. Al finished at Olie's. Gib worked summer fallow north of garden for the second time. I worked on punch work pillow top.

May 30th Thurs.-The men drove our cattle farther out on the range, then Al went to plow for Mike in afternoon & Gib went to work on Sharps. Agusta came in morning. I did a little washing, then washed the kitchen.

May 31st Fri.-Al plowed for Mike all day. Gib finished on Sharps & moved to Ackerlys. I finished washing the kitchen, washed & ironed the living room drapes & waxed window casings.

JUNE 1957

June 1st Sat.-Al helped Frank brand some calves, then went to Lewistown. Gib & I went to Lewistown. I to Dr. Olsen, visited the folks. We took a repair part over to Pete & Alta on the way home.

June 2nd Sun.-We went to church, then I baked cake & cookies. It rained about noon.

June 3rd Mon.-I cleaned & waxed most of the floors. Baked cake & cookies. Gib finished on Ackerlys, the 2nd time over the summer fallow. Al plowed for Mike, broke something on the plow & had Monte weld it at night.

June 4th Tues.-I baked bread, dusted, crocheted. Gib put mower on tractor. Rev. Dorsett came to talk about Bible School.

June 5th Wed.- 86+,hot -Al plowed for Mike, broke some bolts & had to go to town at night to get some. Gib worked on mower & bailer. I hoed & cultivated the garden till 11 A.M. Mildred came for me to pin up a dress for her. Agusta & the 5 kids came to ask us to come to a Stanley party.

June 6th Thurs.-Al finished plowing for Mike, brought our plow home. Gib helped him plow the corners. Gib & I cultivated corn & trees, I finished my garden & finished the second punch work pillow top. Gave myself a part of a permanent. (fast) Harry Wright brought fuel.

June 7th Fri. -Men worked on machinery. Then June Conolly came in afternoon & Gib took us to Roy to a meeting about Bible School. Elmer Anderson's & Mary & Jeannette came about 6:30 in the evening.

June 8th Sat.-We had Rays & all for dinner & supper. Men went fishing in afternoon. Al went to Lewistown.

June 9th Sun.-We all went to Rays for dinner. We ladies went to Stanley party at Agusta. Ted & Betty came.

June 10th Mon.-Anderson's left. I went to Bible School in Roy with June, got home about 1:15. The men took the two bulls out on the range.

June 11th Tues.-I went to Bible school with June. Too windy to work. Men slept.

June 12th Wed.-I went in with June. Gib came in at noon & we went to Lewistown. Al went in too, to get his car fixed. Gene took us for a ride. Gib went to Dr. Culley.

June 13th Thurs. -I drove to Roy alone.

June 14th Fri.-June & kids rode in with me.

June 15th Sat.-Gib & I went to Lewistown, so Gib could take another treatment for his back. Al mowed hay in garden & south corner, then went to town. We got home about 5:30PM. It rained at night. We kept Vernon's children while they went to the dance.

June 16th Sun.-Rained most of the day-I baked cake & cookies. Gib rested.

June 17th Mon.-showers-I washed & got the clothes dried outside. Gib & Al worked on bailer & canvas. Gib rode over south to see cattle. I baked bread, two kinds.

June 18th Tues.-I swept & mopped, washed eggs & ironed. Men worked on bailer. Al went to Baumans to get some rake teeth.

June 19th Wed.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Gib took another treatment for his back. Al rode out on range to see cattle.

June 20th Thurs.-I worked in garden in forenoon. Gib went to Roy to vote on wheat bill. I got sick in the evening. Poisoned mushrooms. Couldn't go to fellowship meeting.

June 21st Fri.-Al took me in to Dr. Culley. It rained & we got home at 12:15. I rested all afternoon. Men worked at patching bailer canvas.

June 22nd Sat.-I cleaned house & baked bread. Al went to Lewistown in PM. Came home about 12:30. Gib went to vote at school house, but no meeting.

June 23rd Sun.-Rodeo day. Al went to Rodeo. Ted & Betty came out about 4 o'clock. In evening Gib & I drove down to see winter wheat, stopped at Rays & had a lunch.

June 24th Mon.-I washed & ironed some curtains. Men raked hay & tried to bale. Jake Roberts came & tuned our piano & was here for supper. Gib went to special Legion meeting.

June 25th Tues.-Men mowed yard & hay. Gib harrowed yard & road. I am cleaning house & ironing.

June 26th Wed.-Gib & I went to Lewistown to John Mecklings funeral. I went to Dr. Culley. We saw Ted's apartment. Al mowed hay.

June 27th Thurs.-I baked bread & cake, washed windows & mopped floors. Men worked on hay. Albert's came in the evening.

June 28th Fri.-The men raked hay. All here for dinner. We visited.

June 29th Sat.-Men baled hay. We all went to Mildreds for dinner. I & boys came home in afternoon. Men started to bale Rays hay & Ray got hurt. Albert's took him to the Doctor. Had lunch here late in evening.

June 30th Sun.-I baked pies & got dinner ready for company. Gene's came for dinner. Ted & Betty came about 3. We took pictures.

JULY 1957

July 1st Mon.-We went to Rays for dinner. Gib & Al worked with hay. Albert took Ray to the Dr. again. Mildred gave me a Nutri Tonic Permanent.

July 2nd Tues.-Mildred, Helen, Bill & I went to town to clean the church. We visited Mrs. Wilcox & Dorothy Kalina. Came home & got supper.

July 3rd Wed.-Helen & I baked two cakes for Ted's wedding tomorrow. We all went to Mildreds for supper. Richard's came.

July 4th Thurs.-Albert's left about 8 o clock this morning. Bill stayed with us. We all went to Ted's wedding at the church in Roy. Dick & Margie went to Lewistown. The kids stayed here. They & Allen came back at night.

July 5th Fri.-Gib & Al baled alfalfa at Rays. Dick's left after dinner for Great Falls. Bill helped bale & turned bales over.

July 6th Sat.-Gib & Allen mowed our barley west of the house. Then Al mowed about half of Rays clover. Gib, Bill & I went to Lewistown to the Pageant. Got home about midnight. Al went to a show.

July 7th Sun.-I'm sick with hay fever. Al raked our barley. Gib mowed the rest of Rays clover. Bill & I made root beer. Pete Ackerly came. Mildred brought Gib home. Men baled barley in evening.

July 8th Mon.-Men finished baling our barley. Then Gib mowed on Rays. Ray raked some hay. Al worked summer fallow on Ackerlys, then they baled some of Rays hay. I washed clothes.

July 9th Tues.-Baled at Rays, then worked here. I ironed some. Rays went to Lewistown.

July 10th Wed.-I finished all the ironing. Men mowed & raked some hay up south.

July 11th Thurs.-Men summer fallowed north field. Hauled in some hay. Gib & I went to Mikes in afternoon & to Jerry Siroky's at night. Bill stayed at Rays & Al went to Roy. We put the young chicks in small chicken house.

July 12th Fri.-Boys hauled hay till noon. Gib worked around the yard with spring tooth harrow. They all went to Baumans after dinner. I washed, mopped & patched.

July 13th Sat.-I cleaned house. The men stacked hay till noon. Al went to Lewistown. Ted & Betty came out about 3PM. They & Bill went to Valentine, but didn't fish. They stayed here overnight.

July 14th Sun.-We put new castors under the kitchen table. The kids didn't get up until 1 o clock. We had dinner then all but Gib went to Rays. Had a bad wind & rain storm for a few minutes. We came home, the kids left about 4. Gib, Bill & I started the pump at the garden.

July 15th Mon.-Al mowed hay south & west of stacks. They raked & baled it. I watered garden & baked bread. Mildred & Agusta came.

July 16th Tues.-The men mowed, raked & baled hay on the Steinfadt place. I watered garden & gave Mrs. Myers a permanent in the afternoon. Bill went to Rays in forenoon & went out on the range with them, then went to Myers & rode out on range there on Trigger, then came home.

July 17th Wed.-The men brought two dry cows home & Don Myers hauled them to town. Then Gib & Al put up hay at Steinfadts. I watered garden. Mildred came & I gave her a permanent, made doughnuts at supper time.

July 18th Thurs.-Men finished hay on Richards north quarter by noon. Bill & I washed the car, Bill waxed it, but Allen did it all over & cleaned inside. I washed some clothes, fixed a shirt for Ted & some black pants for Betty, cut Gib's & Al's hair.

July 19th Fri.-Gib, Bill & I went to Lewistown. We took Maxine & Gary & went up to see Ann & Grampa's. Got home about 7 P M. It rained. Al mowed around the buildings.

July 20th Sat.-The men stacked hay till 1 o clock. I cleaned house, washed some & ironed shirts. Alice, Ray & Agusta & kids came.

July 21st Sun.-We went to church, then went to Rays for dinner to visit with Donaldson's.

July 22nd Mon.-I watered garden, picked peas & beans & froze the peas & canned the beans. The men stacked hay, then helped Mike brand calves.

July 23rd Tues.-Men stacked hay till noon, then Al plowed for Mike. I patched sox & overalls & crocheted. Gib & Bill hauled water.

July 24th Wed.-Everette Campbell & another man helped stack the barley today. I made pies, baked fresh rolls & crocheted on a new doily. Bill & I made root beer. This evening Al went to see Bob & the rest of us went with Rays to a church meeting at Kalina's.

July 25th Thurs.-I washed. Al worked summer fallow for Mike all day. Gib worked on combine.

July 26th Fri.-The men are starting to combine the barley on the flat. I ironed. Finished cutting field, then Al & Bill took two loads of wheat to Roy. Brought Gail out. We started to water garden again.

July 27th Sat.-Men started to cut barley in north west field, but combine broke down. They went to Baumans at noon. I watered garden, picked & canned beans & peas & cleaned house. Al went to Lewistown.

July 28th Sun.-Al helped Baumans combine. Gib & I went to Betty's shower & to Cliff & Opal's 40th wedding anniversary "Open House". Bill stayed with Ray.

July 29th Mon.-I watered garden. We helped combine at Rays. I took Mrs Bauman home. I wrote to Harold.

July 30th Tues.-Monte moved combine from Rays to Styers. Al helped over there too. I baked bread & two kinds of cookies. Bill went to Myers in afternoon & I drove over & brought him home. He rode Trigger over to Rays in evening. Al stayed overnight at Styers.

July 31st Wed.-Allen helped combine at Ed Styers & Fuglestads. I watered garden & picked peas & beans. Ironed Bills shirts & pants & shortened pants. Gib drove to Fuglestads to see when they would be here. Al went to Roy in evening. Monte came after a chain for the combine about 10:30. Gib killed the old rooster & I cleaned & froze him.

AUGUST 1957

Aug 1st Thurs.-I watered garden. Harry Wright brought fuel. The men drove over to Styers & brought Ed's truck home. Monte started to cut on Sharps after supper. I washed windows, wrote to Helen & Emily.

Aug 2nd Fri.-75+,nice, cool day -Monte, Ed & Al went to Lewistown for repairs, got back for dinner. Cut on Sharps till about 4:30 when there was a hard shower. They quit & Gib, Ed, & Monte took a load to Roy. Al & Bill here for supper.

Aug 3rd Sat.-We all went to the fair. Got home 11:30.

Aug 4th Sun.-Al & Monte got home at 8 A.M. Finished combining on Sharps about 2, cut our wheat south west of south dam & started strips by the mail box. Rays came over & Mildred helped me. Alice & Grandma came. Ed & Monte stayed all night. Gene came for a little while.

Aug 5th Mon.-They finished cutting our wheat after dinner, cut Rays, then cut on Baumans. Bill went to Myers. Agusta came for water. I baked rolls & pies.

Aug 6th Tues.-The men helped Baumans all day. Bill went over too. I cleaned the cupboard, patched Bills overalls, crocheted, read, slept & watered garden.

Aug 7th Wed.-Men & Bill helped Baumans till 3:30. I watered garden, picked & canned beans, cut some weeds away from snow fence, washed clothes by hand, mopped floors, dampened clothes & wrote to Mary (Anderson) Hanson. Bill walked over to Don Myers & then down to Sharps. Gib & Al hauled water, then went to Sharps to work summer fallow.

Aug 8th Thurs.-Al worked on Sharps & Ackerlys. I watered garden & ironed. Bill played with Donny all day, then Donny stayed here all night. Gib worked on machinery.

Aug 9th Fri.-Gib & Bill went to Lewistown in pickup. Took tractor tire in to be fixed, also my washing machine.

Aug 10th Sat.-Al helped Monte today. They went to Lewistown at night. I cleaned house. Alice, Mildred & Ruth Busenbark came.

Aug 11th Sun.-Tommy Harrell & Donny came & the boys went riding. I wrote to Bob's. We went to Dolly's shower at the Bohemian Hall at night.

Aug 12th Mon.-Al & Gib helped combine at Baumans. Bill went to Myers, brought Donny & Nanette back with him.

Aug 13th Tues.-Monte finished combining our barley. Agusta took Bill up to Charlotte's. I baked bread & cake.

Aug 14th Wed.-I washed at Mildred's then came home & washed kitchen curtains etc. Folded & dampened clothes. The men hauled a load of hay from Steinfadts, then Al went to town to the Drs. for his sore throat & teeth.

Aug 15th Thurs.-Men hauled rest of hay. Had a flat tire on hay rack. DeLittle Martin came to visit. Indian woman came selling herbs. Men drove over south to look for three yearlings, then the boys rode all over looking for calves, found one steer.

Aug 16th Fri.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Gib went to Fish Fry. I stayed at Dad's. Al raked some straw & worked on car. Bill went to Agusta's & Charlottes.

Aug 17th Sat.-Gib raked straw then he & Bill baled some. I used vacuum cleaner, mopped & waxed living room. Dave & Irene Potter came & stayed all night. They started to the dance at Valentine, but it rained. Al went to town before noon.

Aug 18th Sun.-Rays, Bill, & us went to church. Bill went to Myers in PM.

Aug 19th Mon.-I mopped & waxed kitchen, washroom & porch & cleaned for Mae & Harry, but they didn't come. Al & Bill rode most of the day looking for 2 heifers, but couldn't find them. Then Gib & Al baled straw till it rained.

Aug 20th Tues.-I baked bread, washed some, crocheted, & painted a dresser scarf. Men finished baling straw. Bill rode to Myer's. Ray came with a letter from Mae saying they were coming later.

Aug 21st Wed.-Gib & Al went to Lewistown, Gib to get new tires & Al for car repairs. Bill & I trimmed trees & looked for eggs. Joe & Helen Peoples came here for dinner. Mildred came & Bill went home with her. Jim & Willie Adams, Ann & Larry came in afternoon. Donny Myers came & played awhile. Gib & Allen came home. We all had ice cream. Jim & all left. We went to Rays for Bill. He & Donny helped the men haul baled straw. Gib & Bill took Donny home at night.

Aug 22nd Thurs.-Rays, Gib & I took Bill to Harlowton to catch the train to Seattle. It rained all the way. We got back to Lewistown at noon. Got home about 5PM. Al had hauled in & stacked some of the baled straw & raked some on Sharps.

Aug 23rd Fri.-Gib hauled in some loose bales & then we dug some spuds. Al raked Sharps, then they baled & hauled in a load. I picked & canned 25 pints of beans. Agusta came.

Aug 24th Sat.-I cleaned, dusted, painted lower bath room walls & door & north door white. We started motor & watered tomatoes. Allen went to town this morning to have his teeth cleaned. Gib raked & baled some straw.

Aug 25th Sun.-We watered garden. Al came home about 9AM. Gene & Maxine came & took him back, as he & Gene are going to Salt Lake City to fix a Wagner tractor for somebody. I trimmed trees, watered flowers. Gib & I looked at cows, hauled water.

Aug 26th Mon.-We went to Lewistown, left at 1PM. Stopped at Weidemans to pick choke cherries with Rays & Kosirs. I cooked the cherries at night.

Aug 27th Tues.-Gib went to Roy in afternoon to help work at the cemetery & brought my washing machine home. Agusta came. I baked bread, cake, & made doughnuts. Monte came.

Aug 28th Wed.-I washed & ironed some. Gib hauled & stacked a big load of baled straw.

Aug 29th Thurs.-I waxed living room floor & all the furniture, ironed at night. Agusta came & helped pick beans. Gib hauled out weeds. We drove over to see the cattle. Ted brought Al home about midnight.

Aug 30th Fri.-Gib went to Lewistown for treatment, got home about noon. I mopped & waxed kitchen & washroom floors, & washed windows. Baked angel food cake. Ted's & Gail Nelson came out in forenoon. Mae & Harry came about 5:30. Rays came after supper.

Aug 31st Sat.-We all went to Rays for dinner. We came home & killed & cleaned 5 roosters.

SEPTEMBER 1957

Sept 1st Thurs.-We cooked a big dinner. Gene & Maxine came late & ate. Ted & Betty came. Then Richard Grimms & family came & stayed till Wed.. Gene's stayed all night in their trailer house. Al went home with Ted.

Sept 2nd Fri.-Gene worked on Al's car then went to fix Horyna's tractor in PM. Ted & Betty came back & Ted made a cupboard. Monte came. We had 16 here for dinner & 15 for supper. Gene's & Ted's went home.

Sept 3rd Sat.-We all had dinner at Rays then drove to the river to see the bridge. Had lunch here.

Sept 4th Sun.-Richard Grimm & family left about 8:15 to go back to California. Mae & the men picked over the crab apples & we cooked, strained & canned the juice. Made some jelly. I swept & dusted the house. Rays came in afternoon & Mae & Harry went back with them & canned apples. Came back in evening, Harold, & the folks came out for dinner. Dad showed some movies. Al helped Baumans stack hay.

Sept 5th Mon.-Rays & Boe's left for the Park this morning. Gib looked at cows. I washed some & canned 4 quarts of apples.

Sept 6th Tues.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Al helped Baumans stack.

Sept 7th Wed.-Al helped Baumans, finished about noon. Came home & cleaned up & went to Lewistown. I washed some, ironed, went with Gib to see cattle. Gib cleaned chunks of mud out of yard. Rays & Maes came back in late PM.

Sept 8th Thurs.-I packed things to take to the Park. We had dinner at Rays, then came home & Mildred & Mae helped me make cookies & doughnuts. Mae & Harry stayed here overnight.

Sept 9th Fri.-Mae & Harry left this morning. Allen went to ride for Olie. Gib & I left for Lewistown. I ironed for Maxine. She was busy all day getting ready to go to the Park. They took Gary up to Morrison's at night. Slept in the trailer house.

Sept 10th Sat.-Allen rode for Olie. We left Lewistown at 10:30 o'clock. Mileage 43,565.3. Stopped to eat lunch at 11:45, 8 miles from Harlowton. Stopped at noon for lunch at Wade's Drive in at Harlowton. Cost $1.90. Left Harlowton at 12:25. Stopped at Livingston for gas, $3.95, 11 gallons & rest & a drink. Left at 2:45. Stopped to have some beer & orange crush at some roadside park a few miles out. Left a 3. Stopped at Chico Hot Springs at 3:50. Looked at the lodge & swimming pool. Left at 4:45. Got to Gardiner about 5 o'clock, made a reservation for a cabin at the Jim Bridger court, got number 18-a very nice log cabin $6.00. Parked the trailer house beside the cabin, left about 5:30 & drove up to Mammoth Hot Springs, (paid $3.00 for car permit) & on up a winding road above the Hot Springs which was a very interesting drive. We drove on up the road toward Norris abut 10 miles or more, saw a herd of cow & calf elk & a bull elk, then turned around & came back to Gardiner to spend the night. We fixed hamburgers for supper, then went to bed about 9.

Sept 11th Sun.-Allen rode for Olie. We got up about 6:15. Cool, nice morning. Ready to leave at 7:30. Left Gardiner at 8 AM. Paid $3.00 for trailer permit. Saw a big bear. Drove over to see petrified tree. 9AM. Stopped to see Tower Falls & took picture. People were feeding a black bear. Drove a little farther & saw 3 bears. One, black, one blonde & a baby black one. Took a picture on the Dunraver Pass. Saw 3 more bears, Mama & 2 babies. Saw another bear. 9 so far. Stopped at canyon for gas. 13 gallons, $4.95, 11:10AM. Went through a big store & bought a few groceries. Stopped to see the Great Yellowstone Falls, 308 feet. Stopped beside the Yellowstone river to eat dinner at 12:30. We ate lunch, then Gene fished awhile, but didn't catch anything. We started out again at 2PM. Stopped to see the mud Geysers at 2:30. Volcano Dragon Mouth. Drove around fishing bridge camp grounds. Saw 2 bears, some sea gulls, crows & squirrels. 11 bears so far. Went through the museum. Left at 3:30. Saw a coyote. Stopped at lake abut 4PM. Had ice cream, bought some cards, mailed 2, left at 4:30PM. Saw 2 more bear, then 4 more, 17 all together, then 5 more bear. Stopped to see Paint Pots at West Thumb ranger station at 5:30. Saw another bear. Drove out side road to see Lone Star Geyser 6:15PM. Got to Old Faithful at 6:25. Drove around awhile, then stopped at 7:45 to camp. Gene set up tent while we got supper. There is a big bear in camp. (29 bears).

Sept 12th Mon.-Allen drove around to see our cattle. We got up at 6AM made hot cakes, cleaned up & are about ready to go at 9AM. Drove out to see Old Faithful Geyser. Saw it erupt at 9:50. Got 2 pictures. We went through a museum & store. Left at 10:55. Stopped to see the Morning Glory pool. Saw 2 bears. Passed Firehole Cascasdes. Saw another bear. (32 bears). Came to Madison Junction & took the wrong road. Had to turn around & go back. Stopped for lunch (about 12:15) by the Madison River. Gene fished a little while, but didn't catch anything. Left at 1PM to go on to West Yellowstone, speedometer read, 43,968.4. Saw a big buffalo in the woods. Got into West Yellowstone about 1:30. Got some gas ($3.90) went through some curio shops & a grocery store. Left at 2:20 for Ennis. Saw 3 moose out a few miles. Got to Virginia City at 20 to 5. Lady at museum said 400,000 people had gone through this year. We went to see the old building, relics & museum & had some hot soup, then started back to Ennis to stay for the night at 7PM. We got to Ennis about 7:45 & drove around looking for a motel. Some were closed. Finally stopped at Parkway, where we could park the trailer out in front. Cost $7.00. We cooked hamburger for supper. I took a bath. Got to bed about 10.

Sept 13th Tues.-We had breakfast, left at 9:15. Passed through a big band of sheep near McAllister. Got 11 gallons of gas ($4.20) at Norris at 10 o'clock. Got to Lewis & Clark Caverns at 10:40. We rode up the mountain on a railway car, then rode up over 435 feet in a cable car. Walked through the Caverns in a hour & 10 minutes. Rode down on the railway car & went to information center for beer, ice cream & souvenirs. Left at 1PM. Drove into Three Forks at 1:30. Went on through to see where the Madison, Gallatin & Jefferson Rivers meet to form the Missouri. Drove on down to Trident Cement Works. We drove back to where the rivers meet & ate lunch. Gene fished awhile. Left at 2:50. Went through Livingston at 4:15. Stopped at Big timber at 5PM for ice cream & gas, 11.8 gallons, $4.36, $1.30 for ice cream. Left at 5:30PM. Went through Harlowton at 6:25. Stopped at Eddies Corner to fix a clearance light on the trailer at 7:15PM. Got to Lewistown at 7:45, mileage 44375. We got home about 9:30. Traveled 810 miles, spent $21.36 for gas, $5.50 for groceries, $13.00 motels, $3.20 meals, $3.00 car permit, $3.00 trailer permit, $4.00 cavern tour, $4.80 souvenirs, total $54.86. Allen sick with stomach flu.

Sept 14th Wed.-Gib & Al hauled two loads of straw. I picked tomatoes. Rays came at night, we went to Hilger with Rays.

Sept 15th Thurs.-Rays went to church with us. In afternoon we drove over south to see cattle & shut gates hunters might have left open. Al came home.

Sept 16th Fri.-I did a big washing. Men hauled in the rest of the baled straw & got mower ready. Rays went to Missouri River fishing.

Sept 17th Sat.-Men mowed & raked alfalfa for seed. I swept & dusted & ironed. We picked & covered tomatoes. Al washed his car.

Sept 18th Sun.-Wet & cold, snow all day-I ironed some more. I dug up some carnation plants & covered roses. Al worked on his car. Men put anti-freeze in tractors.

Sept 19th Mon.-I finished my ironing, made cookies, crocheted awhile. Men worked in the shop & rested. In the evening we went to Don Kalina's with Rays.

Sept 20th Tues.-I baked bread, canned 8 pints of tomatoes. Men fixed the pump at the well. Allen went to Roy to football game in afternoon. Alton came for a few minutes. I crocheted & sewed buttons on shirts.

Sept 21st Wed.-I cleaned & dusted the house. Agusta came in AM. Allen went to Lewistown in the morning to get a penicillin shot for a sore throat. Gib started over to see the cows & got the pickup stuck in mud.

Sept 22nd Thurs.-We took the tractor over south & pulled the pickup out of the ditch & I drove it home. In the afternoon we went to Kosirs.

Sept 23rd Fri.-The men mowed & raked the rest of the alfalfa. Al went back to town in PM. for another penicillin shot. Gib & I went to Roy in PM. Harry Wright brought out fuel. Mike came.

Sept 24th Sat.-I baked 2 cakes. Rev Dorsett came about 10:30. Al took wheat in to Roy to be cleaned & treated. Gib went over Sharps 40 acres with harrow, then Al started to sow winter wheat. Mildred came. Agusta came for water & tomatoes.

Sept 25th Sun.-Allen finished sowing winter wheat. Frank came early this morning to get Gib to bring his truck back from the range. Gib got back about 11. I picked tomatoes & washed our car.

Sept 26th Mon.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Gib went to First World War Veterans meeting. I stayed with folks. Al rode out to see the cattle on the range. Hauled water & washed his car.

Sept 27th Tues.-Ray, Mike, Don, Harold, Monte, Mr. Phillips & Pee Wee helped brand our 21 calves. Ted & Betty came about 11, borrowed our car to go to Jordan. Got back about 2 o clock next morning.

Sept 28th Wed. -I cut Ted's hair. Allen went with them to help them move to Jordan. Gib rode out to see if he could find the bulls, but couldn't. Got home about 1 o clock. Mildred came over. I went over to help her make a cake. Came back & swept & mopped, washed & cleaned the car. Washed my hair.

Sept 29th Thurs.-We went to church, had dinner at Opal's, went on to Lewistown to Pucketts 50th wedding anniversary celebration. Ted's & Allen went to the show before Ted's left for Jordan. We walked down to the show.

Sept 30th Fri.-Gib took the car down to get the lights fixed, took all day. I cleaned house for Cora, cut her hair & Dad's Dad worked on the cellar of the house he rents most of the day. Allen brought one bull home.

OCTOBER 1957

Oct 1st Tues.-I washed. Don Myers hauled a load of cattle to town, including spot. Allen rode out on range & brought our big bull home. Gib knocked some weeds loose in north field.

Oct 2nd Wed.-I baked bread & cake. Gib & Al took the bulls over south then put rubberoid on chicken houses & tarred the house roof to stop it from leaking. Mildred & her niece, Mrs Jones came for some thread. Ray took them all to Billings in the afternoon. Mildred is going to Nebraska with Clara. Gib went to Swans in evening, picked tomatoes.

Oct 3rd Thurs.-20+,cold, rained & snowed a little. Men cleaned the chicken houses, north barn & ground feed. I ironed. I went to Agusta's in afternoon. Gib & I went to fellowship meeting at Charlottes in evening.

Oct 4th Fri.-Men drove over to Rays & brought the eggs home. I made three pillows for Gary. Frank & Murna came over in evening. Ray & Mildred came home.

Oct 5th Sat.-I cleaned house, washed my hair. Rays came over & Mildred put curlers in my hair. Men hauled in alfalfa seed & stacked it. Al went to town about 3.

Oct 6th Sun.-Rays & Charlotte & us went to the District Legion Convention in Lewistown. We all went to church first. Al went to Jordan Sat. & Sun..

Oct 7th Mon.-40+, Snowed nearly all day-Men hauled in rest of alfalfa seed. Monte here for dinner. Al rode out on range with Monte. I worked on auxiliary stuff & on pillow tops for Gary.

Oct 8th Tues.-28+.cold & cloudy all day-I finished pillow tops & sewed some. Al sick with a cold. We went to Legion meeting at night with Rays. No auxiliary meeting.

Oct 9th Wed.-We cleaned & froze nine roosters. Gib worked on the car. Al stayed in all day, worked on his lessons.

Oct 10th Thurs.-Al's feeling better, worked on tractors & pickup & his car awhile. Gib did the chores etc. I cleaned & froze two hens for Margie, washed & ironed a little, packed things to take to town tomorrow, to go to Glasgow Sat.. Mildred came.

Oct 11th Fri.-Gib & I went to Lewistown, had some work done on the car. Stayed at Gene's all night.

Oct 12th Sat.-We & Gene's left for Glasgow this morning at 8:15AM. Mileage 20,974.7. Got to Winifred at 9:05AM. Went across the ferry on the Missouri river at 10:05, mileage 21,045.8, through Malta at 12:05, mileage 21,122, Saco at 12:55 & got to Glasgow about 1:40, mileage 21,194. They all went up to Fort Peck, but me, Sharon & Gary. Gib & I slept in a motel cabin at night ($7.00).

Oct 13th Sun.-Maxine went to church. The rest of us had breakfast. I took care of Gary. I let the hem down on Sharon's coat & fixed some pants for Richard. We left at 2:20, got gas in Glasgow 14.7, mileage 21,197.9 & stopped to see Ted & Betty at Jordan at 5:45, got gas 8 gallons. Had a lunch & left about 7:15. Got to Lewistown at 10PM, miles 21,496 & we got home at 12, mileage 21,547. Total miles drove 552.

Oct 14th Mon.-I baked bread & put things away. The men drove around looking at the fences & rested some.

Oct 15th Tues.-Gib & Al rode out on range & brought some cattle home. I baked cake & cookies, went to Mildreds in afternoon & got a permanent.

Oct 16th Wed.-I washed clothes, washed windows & put up seven storm windows. The men brought in some more cows, have all but two cows & calves now. Al went to show in Roy.

Oct 17th Thurs.-Rain in the night-We all went to Lewistown & got a flu shot. I had my hair thinned & set.

Oct 18th Fri.-showers-The men worked around outside. I ironed.

Oct 19th Sat.-Rain all day-I cleaned house, patched some. Allen went to Lewistown in PM.

Oct 20th Sun.-Cold & muddy-Gib read & rode over to see cattle. I cut out a shirt for Ronnie, crocheted a dress for a doll. Al got home about 10:30.

Oct 21st Mon.-Rain all night, snow all day-I darned sox, patched mittens, sewed up Ronnie's shirt. Made a cake for Allens birthday tomorrow, also cookies. Gib & Al rode over to see cattle. Put them in on Rolphs.

Oct 22nd Tues.-Snow & wind, cold-I finished Ronnie's shirt, put icing on Al's cake, crocheted. Worked on auxiliary books.

Oct 23rd Wed.-Men put window in chicken house. Had birthday dinner for Al. I wrote card to auxiliary members. Al went to Roy for birthday supper at Gail's.

Oct 24th Thurs.-I canned squash, baked bread, washed my hair & cleaned eggs. Ray came for water. We went to Fellowship meeting at Kalina's.

Oct 25th Fri.-Men rode over to break ice for the cattle. I washed by hand, dried clothes out doors, mopped & crocheted for another doll.

Oct 26th Sat.-Gib & Al put the cattle out on Peterson's again, because the pasture is so muddy. I cleaned house. Al went to town.

Oct 27th Sun.-Gib had to ride over twice to keep the cattle from going up the road. I crocheted doll clothes & doily. Ted came for a little while. I cut out my nightgown & a shirt for Ronnie.

Oct 28th Mon.-Men fixed some fence. Al rode over to see the cattle. I made myself a night gown & crocheted on doll.

Oct 29th Tues.-Men fixed fence in coulee by Kalals. Gib & I went to Roy in afternoon. Took Agusta, Dorothy along to auxiliary meeting. I made a doll with milk filters.

Oct 30th Wed.-The men worked on the wind break at Ackerlys. house in P. M. Put the cattle back in our pasture this morning. I finished the yellow doll, worked on auxiliary books. Made doughnuts. Al went to Roy in evening.

Oct 31st Thurs.-I defrosted the deep freeze. Baked bread & cookies, worked on pillow top. Men worked at Ackerlys again.

NOVEMBER 1957

Nov 1st Fri.-(deer head) I crocheted & worked on pillow top.

Nov 2nd Sat.-I cleaned house, finished deer head punch work pillow top, read awhile. Al went to town about 11:30. Gib worked around the place & read.

Nov 3rd Sun.-I washed my hair, crocheted & read. We drove over to Rays about 2PM. Al got home about 10:30.

Nov 4th Mon.-Men finished fixing wind break around Ackerly house for the cattle. I washed, folded & dampened clothes. Rays came for water. Men got small deer.

Nov 5th Tues.-I ironed some. Men fixed a gate corner post on Ackerlys. Al has a bad cough & rested all afternoon.

Nov 6th Wed.-Al sick all day with the flu. Gib & I went to Lewistown. I went to Dr. Olsen.

Nov 7th Thurs.-Al sick all night & day. I worked at punch work pillows & crocheted. I got sick with flu.

Nov 8th Fri.-I am sick rested, & crocheted. Gib did chores etc. Al feeling better. Finished his lesson. Rays came about noon. Wanted Gib to go hunting but it snowed.

Nov 9th Sat.-Our 28th wedding anniversary. I cleaned house. Finished punch work pillow, horse heads. Al went to town about 3PM. Mildred came & stayed awhile. The men got a buck deer this morning. I'm getting over the flu.

Nov 10th Sun.- 52+,nice day-I crocheted, walked around out doors. Swan came for awhile.

Nov 11th Mon.-Men rode out on range & got home about 1:15PM. I made four pot holders, crocheted some, cooked some squash & cleaned eggs. Mike came & got Rays gun.

Nov 12th Tues.-Gib & Al helped Don & Mike get their cattle in corral in morning. I baked bread & crocheted. Al & I drove over to Mildreds. She has the flu. We went to Legion Meeting. Took Agusta, Dorothy & Charlotte along.

Nov 13th Wed.-Gib & I drove over to Mikes for a little while. Cut up & froze meat this PM. Rays came. Al fixed fence up south.

Nov 14th Thurs.-Gib has the flu. Al fenced till noon. Don Myers stopped. Rev. Dorsett came. I ground up some deer meat. Crocheted for doll.

Nov 15th Fri.-Gib & I went to Lewistown. Left about 4, went to Roy & stopped at Marshs, then went back to Dorsetts for a church board meeting at night.

Nov 16th Sat.-I cleaned house, finished pink doll. Al went to town after dinner. Frank came for eggs.

Nov 17th Sun.-Gib & I went to church, then to Jerry Siroky's for dinner.

Nov 18th Mon.-I washed. Men hauled out junk & broke ice for cattle. Mildred came. Al went to Lewistown to get a penicillin shot & to work on his car. I ironed curtains & davenport covers.

Nov 19th Tues.-I washed kitchen woodwork etc. Cut out my tan plaid dress. Ironed & put up curtains. Larry Jordan came to buy calves, here for dinner. Al came home at night. Gib & I went to Styers.

Nov 20th Wed.-The men got the cattle in & cut out the calves. It was terribly windy & chilly. I finished pink doll, baked bread & cookies. Made pants for Ronnie.

Nov 21st Thurs.-32+,wind-Ed Styer, Frank & Don hauled in 48 calves to Lewistown. Gib went in with Ed, got back about 5PM. I made my tan plaid dress. Went to Fellowship meeting with Rays.

Nov 22nd Fri.-Men watered & fed calves, ground feed. I sewed & crocheted on dolls dress.

Nov 23rd Sat.-I cleaned house, washed some clothes, cut Al's hair, made jam & baked brownies. Al went to town in afternoon. I packed Al's clothes to go to Washington.

Nov 24th Sun.-Gib & Al took the cows out to west pasture & hauled water. Harold B. came & visited awhile. I washed windows inside & out & packed more for Allen. He went to Roy tonight.

Nov 25th Mon.-Gib & I went to Lewistown, got home before 3. Al helped Frank get his calves home in forenoon. Rays came. Allen left for Lewistown to leave for Seattle in the morning. Bob Cimrhakl is going too.

Nov 26th Tues.-bad wind-I cleaned the boys bedrooms, cleaned the stove, used vacuum cleaner on part of the house. Made button holes & hemmed my dress. Gib worked the gardens & the road.

Nov 27th Wed.-I washed some clothes & a blanket, dusted, mopped, made pies, cake & dressing. Frank & Lizzie here for dinner & a visit. Gib fixed our mail box.

Nov 28th Thurs.-Gene's, Mary, Ted's, Ray's, & Kosir's here for Thanksgiving dinner. Ted & Betty went to Lewistown. Left cats here.

Nov 29th Fri.-I straightened up the house & crocheted. Kids came back at night.

Nov 30th Sat.-I baked 2 pies, made salad for tomorrow. Kids slept till noon. Then Ted worked on his car. Betty started a milk filter doll. They drove in to Roy in evening. Kosirs came in evening to bring present for gift shop.

DECEMBER 1957

Dec 1st Sun.-Ted & Betty here & we all went to church & pot luck dinner. Ted's went home in PM.

Dec 2nd Mon.-Gib worked a field on Ackerlys to keep it from blowing. I swept & mopped. Wrote to Al. Mike & Stella came. Mildred came. Harry Wright brought fuel.

Dec 3rd Tues.-Gib finished on Ackerlys. I dusted the house & crocheted.

Dec 4th Wed.-Gib & Ray went hunting. Mildred stayed here. She painted dish towels. I sewed up Ronnies shirts. In the P. M. we put plastic on two windows. I baked bread in morning.

Dec 5th Thurs.-Ted & Betty came last night. Ted got laid off his job. Slept till noon. Worked on his car in P. M. Unpacked their car & left for town tonight. We cut up & froze Ted's deer. Rays stopped on way from Lewistown.

Dec 6th Fri.-I started a new apron, crocheted for a doll & made a pink milk filter doll. Gib did chores.

Dec 7th Sat.-I cleaned, dusted, mopped, baked cake, cookies & made sandwiches. Pat O'Reilly brought coal. Ted came out with Charlie when he delivered a car to Baumans. We went to dance in Roy at night.

Dec 8th Sun.-I crocheted for two small dolls. We drove over to Rays in evening. Bad dust storm.

Dec 9th Mon.-We went to Lewistown, back home at 4PM. Did chores. I crocheted.

Dec 10th Tues.-Worked on auxiliary books, sewed & fixed Ronnie's shirt over. Crocheted for dolls. Gib helped Olie vaccinate some calves. Rays came for water. We went to Legion meeting at night.

Dec 11th Wed.-We went to Roy at 9 this morning, so I could get my third polio shot. Ted, Betty, Phyllis & Lynda Phillips came out here for dinner then went back to town. Left the kittens here. Gib & I put a box in the barn for them to sleep in. I crocheted on tiny dolls.

Dec 12th Thurs.-We killed, dressed 5 hens & froze them. I worked on Xmas presents. We drove up to Don's, but no one home.

Dec 13th Fri.-I washed & ironed some. Rev. Dorsett came. Gib plowed furrows through the winter wheat to stop it blowing. Went to Don's.

Dec 14th Sat.-Gib put a cow over west with the others. Alice came & Gib went to help them vaccinate calves. I cleaned house & waxed floors. Typed addresses on Xmas card. Mildred came.

Dec 15th Sun.-We went to church. Then I made some Xmas cookies. Gib vaccinated a sick calf twice today.

Dec 16th Mon.-I wrote cards & wrapped Richard's package to mail. Mildred came.

Dec 17th Tues.-Wrote cards most of the day & night. Ted & Betty here for supper. I started a punch work pillow.

Dec 18th Wed.-Wrote cards & finished pillow. Wrapped package for boy at Miles City & one for Harold. Went to Rays. Gib shot the sick calf.

Dec 19th Thurs.-We went to Roy in afternoon to Fellowship meeting & helped clean church. I worked on another pillow top at night. Finished writing cards. Rays went to town. Allen got back from Seattle. Al came home in the night.

Dec 20th Fri.-We went to Lewistown. Saw Gene's & the folks & Ted & Betty.

Dec 21st Sat.-I swept & dusted. Trimmed Xmas tree. Mildred came. Gib & Al hauled water.

Dec 22nd Sun.-I baked bread, cookies & brownies. Made candy. Mildred came & we made pop corn balls. I worked on pillow top. Al went to Roy. We took Mildred home. I wrapped pop corn balls in paper.

Dec 23rd Mon.-I finished Maxines pillows. Made candy. Al went to Lewistown at night to see a man who was coming to Gene's to talk about a trade school. We went to Roy in evening to church Xmas service. Rode with Rays.

Dec 24th Tues.-Ted & Betty came home last night. I finished Xmas things, baked three squash pies for tomorrow, made more candy. Betty did some ironing. We had our presents in the evening.

Dec 25th Wed.-Teds left to go to Grabers for dinner. Gib & I & Allen went to Gene's. Richard's were there & the kids came home with us. Ted's came back in the night.

Dec 26th Thurs.-Alice came over & got me to go with her to help collect for the Red Cross. I took Sharon & Ronnie along. We didn't get back till 8 PM.

Dec 27th Fri.-I baked bread & rolls & two cherry pies. Tried to clean house. Dick & Margie came in P M. Ted left in evening to go back to Lewistown. Margie was sick all night.

Dec 28th Sat.-I gave Margie a permanent in afternoon. Rays came in morning. Harold Bauman & Grandma came over for water in evening. Al went to town. We had fried chicken for supper.

Dec 29th Sun.-Richards left this morning about 10:30 to go to Great Falls. I straightened up the house. Vernons came about 4:30.

Dec 30th Mon.- 36+,very nice-I took Christmas tree down & straightened up the house. Mike & Stella came. Don came for trough. Agusta came for me to cut her hair. I cut Allen's hair. Gib & Al put a big window in the chicken house.

Dec 31st Tues.- 33+,lovely weather, still & bright -I cleaned house, mopped & washed windows. Gib & Al opened fence up south so cattle could go over on Ackerlys. Al went to dance in Roy. Vernon brought his kids down. Ted & Betty came out.
