JANUARY 1937
Jan 1st Friday -Cold, but clear
The boys and I went to Neills with the folks for New Year dinner. Mr. Barrows was there too. Gib came after dinner. I finished Mamas dress.
Jan 2nd Saturday - Clear in morning, then snow at night
Gib and I went down town then came home in P.M. It was snowing, blowing but not very cold. Got home about 3 o'clock.
Jan 3rd Sunday - cold and windy
I unpacked things and straightened up the house a little. Gave the boys a bath and ironed a little.
Jan 4th Monday - cold, snow and windy
Baked bread. Gib took Gene to school on the sled with Pat. Gene made a little bench at night.
Jan 5th Tuesday- 35 below
Gib took Gene to school. I sewed some. Gib hauled a load of straw.
Jan 6th Wednesday - 40 below zero, clearing
I washed some and ironed some and sewed at night. Gib fixed a box on the sled.
Jan 7th Thursday - 50 below, clear and bright
I finished the washing. Gib drove Pat with harness to get Gene tonight.
Jan 8th Friday -
Gib and Gus hauled four loads of straw. I mopped and cleaned all but kitchen.
Jan 9th Saturday -
Gib and Gus went to town. I mopped and cleaned the kitchen. Mike brought duck over and stayed awhile.
Jan 10th Sunday - mild and bright
I baked bread, apple pie, roasted the duck, ironed and put my hair up to curl on the permanent wavers. Swan, Ray and Gus came. Gib hunted the colts.
Jan 11th Monday - Lovely day
I set the wave in my hair and ironed. Mildred came and spent the day. Gib and Gus hauled a load of coal.
Jan 12th Tuesday - Mild and bright
Gib hunted horses again. I baked cookies and sewed some.
Jan 13th Wednesday 15 above, blizzard, getting colder 35 below in morning.
I sewed and patched and wrote a letter to Mother Distad and made cookies. Gene didn't go to school.
Jan 14th Thursday - cold and clear
I sewed and baked bread. Gib rode over to Mikes. Ray came. Ed Peterson came and was here for supper. I wrote to Mother Distad and Mae.
Jan 15th Friday - Cold and windy in evening.
Gib took Gene to school. I washed and mopped the floor. Gib rode over to Rays.
Jan 16th Saturday - cold
I cleaned house and carved out a little horse. Gib cut Gus's hair.
Jan 17th Sunday - cold and snow
I helped Gene saw out a horse, ironed some and baked a cake. Cut the boys hair and gave them a bath.
Jan 18th Monday - - nicer, but cool
Gib rode over and brought Keeno and the sorrel colt home. I sewed. Mildred came.
Jan 19th Tuesday - Cold
I sewed, finished boys good shirts.
Jan 20th Wednesday - cold
I worked the button holes in Allen's and Richard's shirts and Gene's good pants and cut out my dress. We listened to Roosevelts inauguration.
Jan 21st Thursday - nice
Gib and Gus went to town. I sewed up my dress. Gene walked home tonight.
Jan 22nd Friday - nice 22 degrees above
Gib and Gus went to town again. Monte walked home with Gene. I baked a cake and finished my dress.
Jan 23rd Saturday - nice 24 degrees above
I cleaned and mopped and did some washing. Gib tied up the four colts today.
Jan 24th Sunday - blizzard nearly all day
I read nearly all day, baked bread, and ironed the boys shirts and overalls. Mike came this evening.
Jan 25th Monday -
Mike came and he and Gib worked on the Ford. Mike and Ray here for dinner. Mike for supper. Harold B. stopped in P.M. and Ed P. came in the evening. I patched Gib's underwear.
Jan 26th Tuesday
Gene walked to school. Mike came for his car and went to town. I patched overalls. Mildred came.
Jan 27th Wednesday -
Had a blizzard and Gene didn't go to school. I ironed some. Mike didn't get back from town.
Jan 28th Thursday - cold and stormy 17 below zero
I washed and baked cookies. Gib took Gene to school, then went to do Mikes chores. Vernon came. Ray stopped a few minutes.
Jan 29th Friday - cold, 35 below to 10 below zero
I finished the washing, baked buns and mopped the floor. Gib fixed storm door and hauled some hay over to Mikes. Mrs. Myers stopped on way home.
Jan 30th Saturday - warmer
I cleaned house, wiped water out of the windows as it melted and patched. Gib took the team and sled and hauled Mikes coal home from when the car was stuck.
Jan 31st Sunday - nicer
Baked bread, cake and ironed a little. Mike fed his horse straw here and spent the afternoon.
February 1937
Feb 1st Monday - Nicer up to 14 degrees above
Old Slim was down and Mike and Gus and Gib tried to help her up, but had to shoot her. Mildred came. Mike and Gus here for dinner. I made Gus some mittens. Wrote to Mama.
Feb 2nd Tuesday - wind blowing snow, 15 below
Gene didn't get to school today. I made Mildred a match box, fixed the bench, sewed and ironed. Gib and Gus went to Rays to help get the mare up, had to shoot her.
Feb 3rd Wednesday - nice up to zero degrees
Gib cleaned the barn and chicken house. I sewed, patched and baked pumpkin pies. Monte came home with Gene and Gib had to take him back to school. Mikes came for hay.
Feb 4th Thursday - nice, but cloudy and chilly
I ironed, patched and baked bread. Gib and Gus hauled a load of coal. Mike hauled three loads of hay that the truck left here. He's been feeding straw here since Sunday.
Feb 5th Friday - cold and stormy, blizzard
I washed and dried clothes in the house.
Feb 6th Saturday - nice 14 above
I cleaned house.
Feb 7th Sunday - Snow and blowing then warmer
I baked bread and ironed Gene's shirt.
Feb 8th Monday - cold, blizzard
Vernon stopped a few minutes on his way to Rays. Allen had the croup about 4 o'clock or rather Tuesday morning.
Feb 9th Tuesday -
We were up so much with Allen last night that we're awfully tired today. Gib and Gus took Gene to school, but he walked home. Ray went to town.
Feb 10th Wednesday - nice and mild 34 degrees above, thawing
Gib hauled manure. Mildred came. I cut out Richard's jacket and ironed. We've been pretty tired today. Allen had several bad coughing spells at night.
Feb 11th Thursday - lovely 40 degrees above thawing
Gib cleaned snow out of buildings, hauled manure and got battery at Mikes. I washed with machine, baked bread and mopped all the floors.
Feb 12th Friday - 40 above, then cooler, flurries and strong wind
Gib and Gus went to town. Ray stopped a few minutes. I finished drying clothes out doors. Sorted out scraps and straightened up the boxes in the bedroom.
Feb 13th Saturday - S. E. wind, 26 above, cooler
Gib went to town again. Gus helped Ray butcher. I swept, dusted and made a cake.
Feb 14th Sunday - cold and windy
I baked bread, ironed some shirts and made a white cake. Gib rode over to Mikes and helped him get his car home. The boys and I made Valentines.
Feb 15th Monday - 40 above thawing
I ironed and washed my hair and made a chocolate cake. Gib and Mike rode out on the range. I churned.
Feb 16th Tuesday - Cloudy and mild, then dust storm in P.M.
Gib rode over to Swans, got back at noon, then the boys and I rode over to Mildreds. I put permanent in Mildreds hair. Gib came after us in the car and I rode home.
Feb 17th Wednesday - strong chinook wind, blowing dust
Mildred came over. I set her wave and washed. She finished my ironing and churned. Gib cleaned his torch. Richard went to school today.
Feb 18th Thursday -cooler, dust storms and thawing
I baked bread, cookies and churned. I wrote to Aunt Edith. Gib is laying around today. Rays went to town.
Feb 19th Friday -nice, then strong wind in P.M.
Rays came over in the car. I cut Mildreds hair again and sewed up Richards jacket. Richard went to school. Gib and Gus hauled three loads of straw.
Feb 20th Saturday -colder and windy
I cleaned and mopped the whole house . Gib fixed the boys wagon and put shoes on Pat.
Feb 21st Sunday - nice, snow at night
I washed Genes overalls, ironed, baked cookies, pie, biscuits and gave the boys a bath. Ed Holubeck and Charlie Puckett came. I churned.
Feb 22nd Monday - cloudy, snowing, 35 degrees above
Mildred came over and I cut out her dress, while she darned five pair of hose for the boys. I baked bread. Gib and Gus went to town, then hauled three loads of straw. Gus here for dinner and supper.
Feb 23rd Tuesday -
I cut out my new navy dress and got it nearly made.
Feb 24th Wednesday - cool
I washed with machine and mopped kitchen and hall. Mildred came and cut her dress waist small and pinned up the hem on navy dress.
Feb 25th Thursday -colder east wind
I ironed some and got ready to go to Lewistown. Gib took Gene to school.
Feb 26th Friday -clear and bright, 20 degrees below in morning then warmer
Gene went to school until noon. Gib went to Mikes to get Mrs. Myers watch. We went to Lewistown. Got stuck once west of Roy. Had supper at Neills.
Feb 27th Saturday -cold in morning, then thawing a little
We went down town. Started home about 3 o'clock. Gus had supper with us. Got new Montgomery Ward catalog.
Feb 28th Sunday -nice bright and clear
Ray here a few minutes. Gib rode over to Baumans. I washed Gene's overalls, baked bread, churned and read awhile.
MARCH 1937
March 1st Monday - thawing, but chilly
Ray brought the car over and he and Gib worked on it all day. Mildred brought the stock to water and spent the P.M. Mrs. Myers stopped on way from school. Mike came for her. I ironed.
March 2nd Tuesday - Warmer, thawing 45 degrees above
Gib and Ray worked on the car all day. Mike came. I ironed some more, sewed on Richards jacket, baked buns and rolls and ditched the water to run out of the yard.
March 3rd Wednesday - mild and thawing
Gib and Gus hauled water. Gib cleaned out the shop. I took down kitchen curtains and washed them and pillow tops and Gene's clothes.
March 4th Thursday -58 above, thawing
Gib started the machine for me. I did a big washing, baked bread and washed the storm windows.
March 5th Friday - over 60 degrees above, still and hot
I washed windows and wood work. Gib and Ray worked on car awhile. Ray and Gus here for dinner. Uncle Will and Alton here for supper and stayed all night. Mrs. Myers stopped tonight.
March 6th Saturday -cooler and windy
Gib and Alton had to go to Lewistown for a new axle for the truck. Uncle Will and Gus took a load to Galloways. All here again tonight. I cleaned house.
March 7th Sunday -cool and windy
Uncle Will and Alton went home today. I churned and read awhile.
March 8th Monday - cool, east wind
Ray came and he and Gib finished the car. Mildred rode over. Gib and Gus hauled manure in P.M. I finished washing kitchen wood work and cabinet. All here for dinner.
March 9th Tuesday - nice 54 degrees above
Ray came and took his car home. Gib and Gus hauled manure all day and irrigated garden patch. I ironed and hung kitchen curtains. I baked bread.
March 10th Wednesday - I finished my ironing and finished Richards jacket at night.
March 11th Thursday - cool and cloudy, then clearing
I cut out some shirts and my underskirt and sewed all afternoon. Gib and Gus hauled a load of coal and then cut sage brush. I baked cookies and jelly roll.
March 12th Friday -
Gib rode over to Rays and Mikes. I sewed and made Allen a new pillow. Baked bread and churned.
March 13th Saturday - chilly, east wind, cloudy
Gib and Gus hauled some stuff over from Cyes. I cleaned and mopped the whole house and did some washing.
March 14th Sunday - 28 degrees above, chilly east wind
I cut the boys hair and gave them a bath and ironed their shirts. Washed my hair and baked a cake. Gib cut Gus's hair.
March 15th Monday - 50 above, nice and clear
Swan came. We went to Roy, had dinner at Pucketts, saw Opal and Lula. Read a letter from Thelma.
March 16th Tuesday -
Gib and Mike rode on the range. I finished Richards pants and sewed some. Baked bread and rolls.
March 17th Wednesday - cool and windy
I did a big washing, mopped the floor, folded and dampened the clothes. Gib worked at the car.
March 18th Thursday - cool and windy
I did all my ironing and pressed Gib's suit and the boys pants. Gib and Gus cut out sage brush. Richard went to school.
March 19th Friday - light snow all day
I dyed Allen's shoes, shined Gib's, baked bread, a cake and got things ready to go to Roy. We all had a bath. Gib worked at the barn and slept awhile.
March 20th Saturday -chilly and snow at night
We went to Roy to the dance and took Myers along. Got home about 4:20.
March 21st Sunday -mostly cloud and cool.
Gib rode over to Mikes. I baked a cake. We were all tired today.
March 22nd Monday - chilly and cloudy, spitting snow
Gib and Gus went to town. Ray went to town and left Mildred here. She darned stockings and I patched overalls, my corset, baked bread and cinnamon rolls.
March 23rd Tuesday - snowed all day, about 23 degrees above
I patched my gloves and underskirts and Gene's overalls. Gib worked in the shop awhile. I made lemon pies. Gus here for supper.
March 24th Wednesday - some snow, milder 38 degrees above
Gib changed tires on the car and took Gene to school with Pat. I patched Gib's overshoes and mittens, made cookies and tomato jam.
March 25th Thursday -clear and bright, thawed a little
I baked bread, made doughnuts and fixed Easter eggs. Gib worked in the shop awhile.
March 26th Friday - clear and cool
I patched Gib's B.V.D.'s, made four sheets for Allens bed and repacked box. Gib worked in shop on neck yokes and things. Mike was here in evening.
March 27th Saturday - clear and cool
Gib and Gus went to town. I cleaned house, made Easter eggs and cookies.
March 28th Sunday -warmer, thawed a little
We fixed stove lining and painted the oven. Gus had dinner with us. We all went over to Rays in the evening. I caught cold.
March 29th Monday - warmer, 34 degrees above
Gib fixed garage doors. I cleaned the inside of cabinet and washed out our underwear.
March 30th Tuesday - bright and still. Over 60 degrees above
I did a big washing and mopped the hall floor. Gib worked in the shop and garage. Gus helped fix garage door. In here for dinner and supper. Ray walked over. Richard sign and feverish.
March 31st Wednesday - snowy and mild, foggy
I baked bread and cookies. Was about sick all day. Richard and Allen has fever last night. Gib and Gus worked in shop and garage. Gus had dinner and supper. Ray came from town. I made boxes for plants.
APRIL 1937
April 1st Thursday - fog nearly all day, mild and thawing
Gib and Gus took shingles off granary. Gus here for dinner. I planted tomatoes and petunias and ironed all P.M. Washed and curled my hair and darned stockings.
April 2nd Friday - snow all night and forenoon over 6 inches, thawing
I ironed and Harold B. came, had dinner here. Mike got teacher and Gene with the buggy, stopped here a few minutes.
April 3rd Saturday - partly clear and mild
I cleaned house, trimmed Gib's birthday cake. Gib and Gus hauled a load of straw and some sage brush off the garden patch, then went to school election.
April 4th Sunday - clear and mild, thawing
No one came. Gib went to Mikes. I read and made out an order.
April 5th Monday -nice
Gib and Gus worked on the granary. Mildred came and we fixed her new dress shorter and ironed. I finished the order.
April 6th Tuesday - nice
I washed. Gib and Gus worked on the granary and Mike helped and was here for dinner. Swan and Vernon here for supper and played cards.
April 7th Wednesday - mild-sprinkled at night
Gib, Gus, and Mike worked on the granary. I ripped out some of my good dress and fixed it over.
April 8th Thursday -50 degrees above, south east wind
Gib and Gus worked on the granary. Carl G. came and talked awhile. I ironed, washed Gib's ties and baked bread.
April 9th Friday - 58 degrees above, drying
They finally got the granary set on foundation. Ray came, and he and Gib hauled some wheat from where Jess Belgren got stuck near Mikes. I ironed and cleaned the front rooms.
April 10th Saturday - a lovely day
Gib and Ray finished hauling the wheat. Gib and Gus planted potatoes in P.M. Mike and Don worked on their Ford. We all took a bath and went to a dance in Roy. I cut the boys hair.
April 11th Sunday -cloudy and chilly wind
We didn't do much but rest. Vernon came in P.M and Baumans and Rays came in evening. Borrowed car license. I baked cookies.
April 12th Monday -cool in morning, then nice
Gib harrowed in the forenoon, then went to town. Rays stopped on way to town. Bauman's stopped to return our license. I washed all the windows and baked bread.
April 13th Tuesday - dust and rain storm in P.M.
I washed and folded clothes. Gib worked on Pucketts tractor and caught a bad cold on his lungs. Gus worked at the granary.
April 14th Wednesday - windy
I got my ironing all done and sewed some. Gib harrowed till noon, then went up to help Harold on the tractor. Vernon was operated on for appendicitis last night.
April 15th Thursday - windy and mild
Gib went up to Pucketts again. I cut out and sewed up my slip and bloomers.
April 16th Friday -windy and cool
I sewed and patched. Gib harrowed, then disced and harrowed the gardens.
April 17th Saturday - cool and windy
Gib finished harrowing corn field, then he, Gus and the boys hauled a load of machinery from Neills. I rode down to wait for the mail, planted 12 rows of garden.
April 18th Sunday - lovely, warmer, still day
Cliff Marsh's came and had dinner. Then went to Rays for school meeting. I patched overalls and we all had a bath.
April 19th Monday - windy
Gib sowed wheat, then he and Gus went to town. I sewed Richard's shoe and planted peas in south garden and twelve rows in west garden. Allen had croup. We went to Rays in evening.
April 20th Tuesday - strong west wind
I washed, mopped kitchen and hall. Gib sowed wheat till noon, then Swan came and got him to help fix his tractor. Mildred came for her cow.
April 21st Wednesday - wind and showers
Gib finished drilling south east field. I fixed my new dress and did some patching. Gus finished door in garage and worked at granary.
April 22nd Thursday -cold, windy and snow flurries
It's too stormy for field work today. I ironed and sewed and got ready to go to Lewistown. I planted four rows in north garden. Gib planted spuds.
April 23rd Friday -
Gib didn't feel good so we didn't go to town. He disced and harrowed spuds. Gus helped me plant eleven rows in north garden.
April 24th Saturday -
I swept, dusted, baked bread and a cake. Gib disced on Ackerlys.
April 25th Sunday - S. E. wind
Gib, Gus and the boys went up to Pucketts to see how the tractor was working. Mildred walked over. Swan came, here for supper. Cut Richard's and Allen's hair.
April 26th Monday - Mild, S. E. wind
I washed, cut Gus's hair, mopped the kitchen and hall and milked the cows. Gib disced on Ackerlys.
April 27th Tuesday -bad S. E. wind, chilly
We took Gene to Rays and went to Lewistown, Gus too. I got a permanent. We got home about 11:15.
April 28th Wednesday - S. E. wind, cool
Gib finished discing on Ackerlys. He got Bob and Sunday to work. (Horses) I put soles and heels on Gib's shoes and heels on Gene's. Rays stopped to grind valves on tractor.
April 29th Thursday -nice
Mildred and Swan were both here before breakfast. Mildred took cow home. Gib drilled on Ackerlys. I cleaned pantry and set tomato plants in cans. Swan started to duck foot.
April 30th Friday - nice, west breeze
Swan worked here till noon with duck foot. Gib drilled wheat. I ironed and patched some. Mildred came about 4 o'clock, had a toothache. I got the cows and wrote to Mother Distad.
MAY 1937
May 1st Saturday - nice and warm 70 degrees above
Gib finished drillings on Ackerlys. I cleaned house and helped set out rhubarb and got the mail. Gib and Gus plowed for rhubarb and then covered it with straw. Swan finished duck footing.
May 2nd Sunday -
Gib and the boys went to Rays to fix Baumans car. I baked bread and wrote chain letter.
May 3rd Monday - nice S. E. wind
I washed and embroidered a dish towel. Gib used duck foot on oats ground out north.
May 4th Tuesday -nice S. E. Wind
Gib finished duck footing oats ground. I painted north bedroom, set 1 setting hen and dampened clothes.
May 5th Wednesday - west wind, mild
Gib sowed wheat on the south piece where Swan duck footed. I varnished north bedroom floor and ironed.
May 6th Thursday - east breeze and quite warm
Gib sowed wheat. I waxed floor and rugs and moved the beds back, baked cookies, finished the ironing, and patched. Mrs. Puckett and Vernon came. Swan came.
May 7th Friday -
Gib finished sowing wheat. Gus went up to help Pucketts. I hoed thistles out of north side of garden.
May 8th Saturday -
Gib duck footed. I cleaned house.
May 9th Sunday - warm and nice
Gib rode over on Ackerlys, fixed gate and went to Rays. I cut out two suits of B.V.D's and made Gene's. Don stopped awhile and Mildred came.
May 10th Monday - bad wind and chilly
I washed and folded clothes. Gib duck footed.
May 11th Tuesday - terrible dust storms all day, chilly
Gib duck footed on the flat. I patched overalls, fixed my white hat and cleaned my white shoes. Mike and Ray brought the tractor over for Gib to fix.
May 12th Wednesday - partly windy, not so cool
Gib finished the tractor and went out to duck foot after dinner. Gus started to tear shed down.
May 13th Thursday -windy
We went to Lewistown. The two boys went home with Mrs. Myers until we came home. Gus worked on shed. Gib got his new suit.
May 14th Friday -
Gib used duck foot in forenoon. I baked bread and got things ready to go to Roy tomorrow night. We went to Rays in the evening and got setting hens.
May 15th Saturday -cool and windy S. E. wind
Gib used duck foot in the morning. I washed my hair, we took bath and went to Roy to Legion convention about 3:20. The boys went to school and then stayed at Myers all night. Gus worked on shed.
May 16th Sunday -
Gib rode over on Ackerlys to see the colts. Pucketts stopped awhile took Gus back with them. I planted some flowers. We went to Mikes to get the boys.
May 17th Monday - nice 70 degrees above
Gib finished the flat and hauled water. I washed, planted a bed of flowers, baked cookies and watered garden. Pucketts brought Gus back.
May 18th Tuesday - cool and windy, S. E. wind
Gib duck footed south patch and some west of north garden, then took Mike's and Ray's horses home. I planted garden.
May 19th Wednesday -
Gib and Gus worked at the shed. I set out cabbage and tomato plants.
May 20th Thursday -

Gib and Gus worked at the dam.
May 23rd Sunday -
I baked bread and cookies. Gib rode over to Bauman's, then brought the colts home from Ackerlys.

I did a big washing, then planted garden till 6 o'clock. Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then Gus started to make a new toilet. Baumans and Swan came.
May 25th Tuesday -
Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then Gus worked on the toilet. Gib cleaned up where the shed was. I planted north garden.
May 26th Wednesday -
Gib and Gus worked on the dam. I finished planting north garden then cultivated and planted some in west garden. Gib rode out on range.
May 27th Thursday -warm
Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then on toilet. I baked bread, ironed, cultivated south garden and we watered some. Gib hauled water.
May 28th Friday -
Gib and Gus worked on the dam. Rays came. We had a terrible dust storm and went down in the cellar.
May 29th Saturday - cool and cloudy
Gib and the boys drove over to Rays. I washed my hair and mopped the floor. We left for Lewistown about 1 o'clock.
May 30th Sunday -
Gib and I went to church this morning. In the afternoon Gib, I, Mama and Allen took Nettie and Ed up to the cemetery to find Verle's grave. Gib went home about 4 o'clock
May 31st Monday - nice
Stayed at the folks. We washed and ironed some. Uncle Wills came out.
JUNE 1937
June 1st Tuesday -
I went to dentist this morning. Mama went up with me, then went home. I had three teeth pulled. Bought material for two dresses and then ironed. We went up to the high school in the evening.
June 2nd Wednesday -
I went to dentist and had two teeth pulled and two filled. Alton went with me. I cut out my striped dress and sewed a little
June 3rd Thursday - rainy and cool
Alton took me down to the dentist again. I finished my dress and curled Mama's hair. We went down town, then in evening we went to graduation exercises at Junior High.
June 4th Friday - cool and shower
I cut out and sewed up Mama's suit. We didn't go any place today.
June 5th Saturday -
Gib and Mildred came down and we went up town. Came home in evening.
June 6th Sunday -
No one came.
June 7th Monday-
I did a big washing. Gib and Gus worked on the dam.
June 8th Tuesday -
Baked bread. The men worked on the dam. I cultivated garden. Swan brought his car over and took it apart.
June 9th Wednesday -
I ironed and patched. Swan worked on his car.
June 10th Thursday -
Had a big rain and nearly a flood this evening.
June 11th Friday -
I patched. The men spent the day looking at the dams and flood damage.
June 12th Saturday -

Gib harrowed and sowed oats. Gus cultivated north garden. They got the planter home from Gautier.

We went to Lewistown in the afternoon, after Gib planted corn. I cleaned house and ironed some before we left.

We drove up to Rossiters, but they weren't home.

The men worked on the dam. I washed, had to finish by hand.

Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then cultivated spuds. I waxed front room floors, planted some melons and dampened clothes.

Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then Gib disced out weed patches on the flat. I cleaned kitchen and baked bread. Rays came in evening.

Gib took Bob and Curly over to Baumans. Ed Holebeck came.
June 28th Monday -hot
I cultivated the west garden and washed windows. Gib plowed on Ackerlys. Gus dug post holes. We went to Myers. Albert and Lloyd came at 11:30 P.M.
June 29th Tuesday - hot and sultry 96 degrees
Gib and the men went over to Rays after breakfast, then they all came back for dinner. I washed bedroom curtains and my dress and dyed the curtains. Did some ironing
June 30th Wednesday - hot and sultry 100 degrees, mosquitoes terrible
The men, all except Gus went to town. Mildred got dinner. I mopped the kitchen, hall and porches. We ironed. I hung the curtains. We took Rays home. Albert took us for a ride.
JULY 1937
July 1st Thursday -
Rays came over again and we fixed lunch and Albert and Lloyd left about 9:30. We ate lunch. The men worked on Rays car. I washed some, mopped and baked bread.
July 2nd Friday -cool forenoon, then hot
Gib plowed on Ackerlys. Gus dug post holes, I wrote to Casteels.
July 3rd Saturday -
Gib plowed. Gus dug post holes. I watered tomatoes and picked some peas. Gib plowed a furrow around garden to keep worms out.
July 4th Sunday - 102 degrees
Looked at gardens. Gene and I have hay fever.
July 5th Monday -
I washed. Gib plowed. Gus sprayed potatoes to keep worms off. Gib rode over to Baumans.
July 6th Tuesday -
Mildred came, helped pick peas. Gib finished plowing
Ackerlys. We shelled peas for an hour. Gus set posts. Made root
beer and baked bread.
July 7th Wednesday -
The men hauled out posts. Gib took the two young mares over to Baumans. I baked a cake and cinnamon rolls and canned three quarts and five pints of peas. Boiled rooster.
July 8th Thursday - warm
Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then hauled out posts and wire. I hoed in garden, then ironed. Gib went to Baumans. Swan came.
July 9th Friday -
Jerry came to get Gus to work for him. Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then on the fence awhile. Gib hurt his leg, so I got the cows. Patched.
July 10th Saturday -
Gib and Gus worked on the dam. I cleaned house, washed and ironed some of Gus's clothes and milked. Gib brought the young mares home from Baumans.
July 11th Sunday -
Swan, Pucketts, Mike and Barta's all came at different time today. I got the cows. My eyes have been sore all day.
July 12th Monday - nice
Gib went to get a pump to irrigate with. Then he got Ray and Mike to help unload it. Mildred helped pick peas and shell them. Jerry came for Gus.
July 13th Tuesday -sultry, hard rain
Gib got Ray to bring Puckett's tractor down here. I canned sixteen pints of peas. It rained hard about 5:30. I got the cows and milked.
July 14th Wednesday -cool, showers
Gib slept awhile, then stretched wire and got the cows. I churned and cut out three pajamas and sewed up two of them. Cleaned top of cupboard.
July 15th Thursday -
Gib got Ray to help irrigate. Mike and Don walked over. Pucketts and Swan came. Peterson boys came.
July 16th Friday - showers in forenoon
Gib hauled machinery away from the new gate. Then he and Ray irrigated in P.M. Carl took Pat to get his horses home. Here for supper.
July 17th Saturday -
I cleaned house and got the mail and helped milk. Gib and Ray irrigated awhile and then took the tractor home. Harold B. and Monte were here for supper.
July 18th Sunday - nice, but warm
Gib and Mike worked on the car all day. Here for dinner. I fixed my two new dresses and cut out my red silk.
July 19th Monday - warm
Gib, Mike and Don finished the car. Gib went to town. Mildred came and put buttons on boys pajamas. I varnished bedroom floor and sewed red dress.
July 20th Tuesday -
I milked and drove the cows out. Waxed bedroom floor and painted the hall. Gib used duck foot on the flat. Got Mikes team. Nellie Neill came out with Alice.
July 21st Wednesday -
I milked and drove cows out. Varnished hall floor and waxed it that night. Gib duck footed. Nellie waxed furniture and piano. Bill Johnson was here for supper. We all went to Rossiters for watermelon.
July 22nd Thursday -
Gib duck footed. I milked and took cows out. Did a big washing and cultivated garden. Nellie washed windows and waxed furniture.

Gib duck footed. I did chores. We ironed, hung curtains and cleaned cellar. Rays and Pucketts came in evening.

Gib finished duck footing and went to Mikes for header attachment. I rode over to Myers for flour, baked bread, three cakes, cleaned house, washed my hair and fixed Nellies.

We got dinner, with fried chicken for all my folks, the Neills, Davis's and Uncle George Neill. Harold brought ice cream. Gus came back.

Gib, Ray and Gus fixed up the header. Here for dinner. I churned.

I took mail sack up to box. Gib, Gus, and Ray cut wheat. I sewed on my red silk dress.

The men finished our field and moved to Rays. I washed, ironed, baked, sewed and patched. It rained hard before evening.

We went to Lewistown to see the fair. Stayed at the folks all night. Aunt Birdie showed us movie pictures. We saw the rodeo in evening.

We went down town before dinner. I got sick in P.M. and we didn't get started home until about 4 o'clock. Gene got sick and threw up on way home.

We didn't do much today. Gib got his own meals, till supper time. I still felt weak and tired. Cultivated a little. Gib rode over to Mikes.
AUGUST 1937
Aug 1st Sunday - cool mostly all day
Swan was here all day. I baked bread, cookies, churned and cut out two shirts for Gene. Gib rode over to Mikes with Swan in evening.
Aug 2nd Monday -
I did a big washing. Mildred came and churned, then we went to the garden and picked beans and lettuce. Gib and Gus hauled the last stuff home from Uncle Will's.
Aug 3rd Tuesday -
Gus went to help Pucketts put up hay. Vernon brought Gus home. Gib plowed for garden below the south dam. I sewed up Allen's shirt and cut out more.
Aug 4th Wednesday -
Gib took Ray and Mike to Earl Rife's funeral in Lewistown. Mrs. Puckett and Vernon brought their cow over. Mrs. Puckett went to Mildreds , then they walked back and were here for supper. Made root beer. I sewed.
Aug 5th Thursday - hot
The men worked on the binder. I sewed up Richard's shirt, cut out three or four aprons out of old dresses and dampened clothes.
Aug 6th Friday - hot
The men are heading on Rays. I went to the garden carried water and canned fourteen quarts of beans, carrots and rutabagas. Baked bread. Put buttons and button holes in Allen's shirt.
Aug 7th Saturday - hot
The men finished Rays field and moved to Ackerlys. I got their dinner, cleaned house and ironed. Got a letter from Mae.

Swan came in evening. We lay around awhile. I wrote to Mae. We watered the north garden.
Aug 9th Monday - windy and cool 76 degrees
The men headed on Ackerlys. I baked bread, a cake and cookies. I made an apron, hemmed the boys overalls and churned. The men were here for dinner and supper.

I picked and canned seven quarts of beans. Gib and Gus worked on the dam, then went to town and took the pump home.

Mildred came and helped me can fourteen quarts of beans, peas, and carrots.

I cleaned house and did some patching and got the mail. Gib mowed and raked and Gus hauled hay. Got a note from Mae Boe telling of Dad Distad's illness.
Aug 15th Sunday - not so hot
Alton and Bob came about12:30 last night with a telegram saying Dad Distad is worse. Left about noon. Rays came and I cut his hair. Myers came. Pucketts stopped to see Gus.

We did chores, drove over to Mildreds, baked angel food cake and mixed ice cream. Mike and Swan came and froze the ice cream. We canned beans.

We did the chores and cleaned house and some windows. Gib and Ray came home about 3 o'clock and brought the three Nelson boys home with them.

Gib and Ray finished heading on Rays. I cleaned house. Mildred came and churned.

We lay around and slept awhile. Rays stopped on way to Pucketts. Gene Galloway brought Gus home and Gib cut his hair and he went back with Gene.

Gib rode Ed's horse home and got our team and Mikes buggy and came back for us. We got home about 4 o'clock. It was the best rain we've had for years.

I washed and got some clothes dried out doors and mopped the floor. Gib and Gus moved the post piles away from garage. Mike brought some meat and went after teacher.
DECEMBER 1937
Dec 1st Wednesday - still, 26 degrees above
Gib and Gus went to town in P.M. I finished drying clothes and made a little present for Nellie and Anne.
Dec 2nd Thursday - 34 degrees above
I ironed and cut out a suit for Allen. Mildred came over and churned for me and then Ray came and they were here for supper. Gib and Gus worked on culvert and took D. Potters home. I baked bread.
Dec 3rd Friday - nice, but cooler and cloudy
Gus went to the timber with Rays. Gib rode over north on the range, then went up to see Dave Potter when he got his car. I made Allen a new suit.
Dec 4th Saturday - cloudy and chilly
I cleaned house. Gib and Gus cleaned barn and fixed a culvert on our south road. Gene and I sawed out some more presents.
Dec 5th Sunday - nice 32 degrees above
Gib rode over south to look for grass.
Dec 6th Monday - cold and windy
I washed, but only got a few clothes dry. Gib and Gus hauled all the straw into the barn.
Dec 7th Tuesday - colder and windy 30 degrees below zero
Gib took horses over south. I sewed buttons on Allens suit.
Dec 8th Wednesday - 35 below zero, but clear
I worked button holes in Allens suit.
Dec 9th Thursday - nicer today
Gib and Gus went to Galloways for a turkey. I ironed and ripped up and washed a coat. Mildred came and ironed some.
Dec 10th Friday - nicer
Gib rode over to see the horses. I got things ready to go to Lewistown tomorrow. Les Bevis hauled us three tons of coal.
Dec 11th Saturday - lovely mild day, rain at night
We left for Lewistown at 20 to 8 and got home at 7. It rained some but was a fine day for the trip.
Dec 12th Sunday - mild and lots of snow
It started to snow about 5 o'clock this morning and snowed nearly all day. I made Gus a birthday card.
Dec 13th Monday -
I baked bread and cookies and drew a pattern for a horse and cut out and sewed one up. Gib rode over to look for the horses and found them at Uncle Wills.
Dec 14th Tuesday -
I washed and dried some of the clothes and worked on presents for the girls. Gib fixed fence around Uncle Wills place. Gus worked on granary.
Dec 15th Wednesday - nice and mild
Gib and Gus made a cow manger in barn. I canned some apple butter and then Allen and I drove over to Mildreds. We stuffed two little horses.
Dec 16th Thursday - nice 36 degrees above
I worked on the girls presents, little sewing, and hankie boxes made like davenport, chair and bed. Gib looked for horses. Rays and Vernon came.
Dec 17th Friday - partly cloudy, cooler 30 degrees above
Gib took our colts back out north. Read awhile, took turkey to Mikes in evening. I finished sawing out presents and we painted them white. I wrote Xmas cards. Gus went to Galloways.
Dec 18th Saturday - I cleaned house and we painted the wooden presents white. Gib went to see the horses.
Dec 19th Sunday - snow and windy, mild
I cut out two little toy carts and sand papered them. Gib took Mikes package over that came in our mail. Gus came home. Jerry stopped for a few minutes. Wrote Xmas cards.
Dec 20th Monday - nice, partly cloudy
I washed and sewed up some pot holders. Gib and Gus took plaster off ceiling in granary. Ray came. Gus went to Galloways. Finished Xmas cards.
Dec 21st Tuesday -
I ironed and worked on presents. Gus went over to Galloways.
Dec 22nd Wednesday -
Mildred came over and we worked on Xmas presents and painted some. Ray came and they left after supper.
Dec 23rd Thursday - cold
I baked bread and a cake and finished presents and got ready to go to Lewistown. Gib rode over to see the horses. Gus came home in the P.M.
Dec 24th Friday - cold
We left for Lewistown about 1:45. Had no trouble, but the roads were icy. Gib and Gus went down town.
Dec 25th Saturday - nice
Harold Hull came home about noon. Gib brought Uncle Will's up and we had the tree and presents before dinner at my folks place.
Dec 26th Sunday - nice
Gib and Gus went home before dinner. Harold left in the afternoon.
Dec 27th Monday -
We washed and cleaned up the house some.
Dec 28th Tuesday -
Papa took Mama, the boys and I down town. Then the boys and I stayed at Margarets. I cut out a suit and jacket for Lewis.
Dec 29th Wednesday -
I sewed on Richard's suit and ironed some. Papa killed a horse for Fabians.
Dec 30th Thursday - lovely today, windy
I swept the whole house. Gib came and went down town. Mama, Bob and the boys and I walked up on the big hill. Gib and I went down town. We left about 5 o'clock
Dec 31st Friday - nice
Gib rode down to fix the fence around Sharps place. I straightened up the house and unpacked things.
